Marvel Announces New Wolverine Comic Starring Laura Kinney

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds and battled formidable foes, I find myself intrigued by the latest development in the Marvel Comics universe – the solo adventure of Laura Kinney, AKA Wolverine.

In the comic book series NYX #1, Logan’s clone daughter, who goes by Ms. Marvel now, cautions Kamala Khan about the impending danger that threatens their city. This city is on the brink of chaos, and it’s time for them to prepare or face the consequences. The character we know as Wolverine, equipped with razor-sharp claws, is actually Laura Kinney these days. She took over the role from an older Laura (previously known as X-23, now Talon) during the Krakoa era, which was depicted in X-Men #18 back in 2023. However, with Marvel’s mutants adjusting to a post-Krakoa age during the X-Men’s From the Ashes period, Laura Kinney as Wolverine will struggle with an identity crisis, as evidenced by the upcoming series titled Laura Kinney: Wolverine.

“At Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con Women of Marvel panel, Erica Schultz shared that we can expect a deep exploration of Laura, revealing both joyful and emotional moments. Laura has faced numerous challenges and encounters with her clones has led her to question her identity. She ponders if she’s meant to be like them or carve out her own destiny, perhaps avoiding the fate of Logan. Ultimately, Laura chooses to create her unique journey, embarking on a solo adventure.”

Following the completion of X-23: Deadly Regenesis in 2023, Schultz revisits the character alongside artist Giada Belviso (known for Marvel’s Blood Hunters) as they embark on a new ongoing series set to debut in December. At the panel, Marvel Comics unveiled the cover for Laura Kinney: Wolverine #1, illustrated by Elena Casagrande (famous for Blade), which is displayed below.

The upcoming series finds Wolverine venturing into the most perilous areas of the Marvel Universe, zones where even the X-Men or NYX allies wouldn’t dare set foot. This fearless mutant takes on the task of protecting those who are unable to protect themselves. Her brutal tactics and relentless resolve make her a formidable force, causing dread in those exploiting her kind. However, as more mutants seek her aid and her notoriety expands, she might become a target herself…

Missions so dire Wolverine must go it alone! Wolverine takes the fight to those who stand as enemies of mutantkind! Laura Kinney was bred to be the ultimate assassin as X-23. She’s long left that life behind, but as she encounters mutants being forced to use their powers against their will, Wolverine takes it upon herself to right these wrongs-no matter who stands in her way! Join Wolverine as she embarks on missions abroad, ready the fight to mutant oppressors wherever they may hide!”

Presently, Laura’s character, Wolverine, features in the comic series NYX, penned by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing. Alongside her standalone series “Laura Kinney: Wolverine,” set to debut on December 11th, Marvel is set to reintroduce the Logan-led Wolverine in September with the creative duo of Saladin Ahmed (previously of Daredevil) and Martin Coccolo (from Immortal Thor). Two ongoing Wolverine series will now be part of a roster of X-Men titles that also includes X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Exceptional X-Men, NYX, Phoenix, Storm, Psylocke, X-Force, as well as the limited series Sentinels, Mystique, and Dazzler.
