Dick Turpin star gives season 2 update and teases larger role

As a film enthusiast who grew up binge-watching Monty Python and Spike Milligan, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming second season of “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin” on Apple TV+. The wacky sitcom’s unique blend of humor, visual absurdity, and a dash of British whimsy resonates deeply with my love for unconventional comedy.

Actor Mark Heap from “The Fictitious Exploits of Dick Turpin” on Apple TV+ recently shared some news about the upcoming second season of the comedy series. He hinted that filming is set to begin very soon.

As a die-hard fan of TV comedy, I was thrilled to see a fresh take on the classic highwayman character. Instead of the traditional swashbuckler, this series cast Noel Fielding as a peace-loving vegan, adding an amusing twist. Interestingly, Heap stepped into the role of his skeptical father, John, offering a unique dynamic to the storyline.

In the second season of Dick Turpin, he mentioned: “That event is imminent, but I’ve been told I’ll be featured much more extensively this time around, so let’s wait and see. I’ve had a conversation with the writers, who are both skilled and open to ideas.”

As a seasoned viewer who values advance screenings, I am genuinely excited about catching the first three episodes of this show ahead of time. It gives me ample opportunity to mull over the plot and anticipate the twists and turns that lie ahead. Previewing shows early in my viewing experience is always an enjoyable treat, allowing me to immerse myself more deeply into the storyline and appreciate the intricacies of the narrative.

During most of the initial season, Dick was striving to win over the approval of his aloof and stern father, who desired him to join the family’s butchery trade. However, given Dick’s unwavering veganism, this career choice was out of the question for him.

A broader scope might involve a deeper examination of the relationship between the two, with possibly increased interest from John in Dick’s unexpected career path: a highway bandit and vigilante.

For the upcoming season 2, it’s anticipated but not yet confirmed that the main cast from season 1 will reprise their roles. This includes Duayne Boachie as Honesty, Ellie White as Nell, and Marc Wootton as Moose, who are expected to continue as part of Dick’s growing crew.

Actress Kiri Flaherty took on a supporting role as pub landlady Little Karen, with Asim Chaudhry, known for People Just Do Nothing, appearing alongside as the bungling warlock Craig. Tamsin Greig and Hugh Bonneville portrayed the sinister Lady Helen and her associate, Jonathan respectively.

At the premiere of season 1, Fielding characterized the show as a revival of British humor reminiscent of Monty Python, Spike Milligan, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Vic Reeves, and Chris Morris, distinguishing it from the more realistic style presented in The Office.

He explained, “Indeed, The Office is fantastic and it’s one of my favorites. However, its success led to numerous other shows with similar elements – authentic and awkward. But what I’m referring to is something more visually striking, imaginative, and filled with delight.”
