As a seasoned gamer of life and pop culture, I must say that the news about Molly Kearney leaving Saturday Night Live (SNL) after just two seasons is bittersweet. On one hand, it’s always sad to see talented individuals move on from such an iconic show. On the other, I can’t help but feel a pang of jealousy knowing that Kearney got to be part of the SNL family for even a brief moment.
As a die-hard SNL fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming 50th season next month! The anticipation is palpable, as we all eagerly await how they plan to celebrate this monumental milestone. It’s been confirmed that the talented Maya Rudolph will be rejoining us as presidential nominee Kamala Harris – a role I can hardly wait to see!
As I bid adieu to my SNL journey, I can’t help but look back at these two unforgettable seasons with sheer delight. It was more than just a dream come true; it was an extraordinary chapter in my life that I will forever cherish. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible individuals behind the scenes who turned every week into pure magic. The bald caps, they multiplied faster than I could keep up!
Maya Rudolph Talks Playing Kamala Harris:
Once President Joe Biden declared he wouldn’t run in the 2024 election and instead endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination, fans of Saturday Night Live (SNL) couldn’t help but speculate if the actress who famously portrayed Harris would return to do her beloved impression. Previously, Backstage had questioned Rudolph about the secret behind her depiction of Harris and how she prepares for such impersonations.
Rudolph described it as if you were playing make-believe by dressing up or when his son puts on superhero outfits. The idea is to imitate that person. In the realm of comedy, for me, what I enjoy pursuing is discovering the aspect that brings about a character with some kind of quirky happiness.
Bowen Yang Calls SNL “Cringiest Thing in Show Business:”
On Saturday Night Live, Bowen Yang is currently a highly acclaimed cast member. Not long ago, he received his fourth Emmy nomination for his work on the program. Yet, he openly acknowledges that the show sometimes feels awkward.
In a recent podcast episode, Yang stated, “I understand the concept of pushing through awkwardness and scaling a mountain of discomfort, given that I work at Saturday Night Live, arguably the most cringeworthy aspect of the entertainment industry overall. Essentially, the ‘cringe mountain’ he refers to is SNL.”
Yang made it clear that the responses from fans frequently make him feel as though Saturday Night Live is the most awkward aspect of the entertainment industry for him.
“I am deeply appreciative of working at SNL, an experience that significantly shapes my life and career. However, it can feel quite uncomfortable when people persistently criticize it, claiming it’s not as good as before. Over time, this constant negativity takes a toll psychologically, leading me to develop a certain indifference, saying, ‘I don’t care.'” (He also added.)
