Dandadan Team Admits the Anime Will Compete With the Manga

As a seasoned gamer and avid manga enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the anticipation for the anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan has been palpable. The manga has been a breath of fresh air in the genre, and its unique blend of action, comedy, and romance has resonated deeply with me.

The series “Dandadan” is set to air on TV for the first time later this year, with the producing team acknowledging they will strive to match the exceptional aspects of the original manga by Yukinobu Tatsu. Since the announcement of the new anime adaptation, the popularity of Tatsu’s “Dandadan” manga has skyrocketed, and as we approach the Fall premiere, even more fans have been able to appreciate some of its most stunning panels and scenes from the original work.

In some aspects, this situation has been like a two-sided weapon. On one hand, the upcoming “Dandadan” anime adaptation generates more excitement among fans when those moments arrive. However, it also puts additional pressure because viewers will inevitably compare the anime to the original manga. This is something that the team behind “Dandadan” is conscious of, as producer Hiroshi Kamei from Mainichi Broadcasting System discussed during Anime Expo 2024 this past Summer, acknowledging the challenge of making the anime stand out amidst competition with the manga.

How Dandadan’s Anime Will Compete With the Manga

Initially, Kamei pointed out that the animation is stunningly beautiful, which seems to be what people are seeking nowadays. Upon reading the manga, he noticed its richness or density. The manga presents a packed stage, but animation encompasses more than just visuals. It involves elements like sound, color, rhythm, and pace. Kamei aimed to highlight these aspects in this broadcast. Later on, he detailed how the anime distinguishes itself from the original manga. Since replicating the intricate artwork from the manga wouldn’t work effectively, they opted for a more straightforward approach while maintaining the characters’ appeal within the setting.

Kamei stated, “I believe the colors and pacing in this anime are more packed than most other series. Also, I think the emotions evoked by reading the Dandan manga and watching the anime will be quite similar. This is due to how we move the battle locations around, creating a sense of chaos. We’re aiming to make the anime stand out, so it’s not just about the visual appeal of the manga. Of course, the manga has style… but if we copied that exactly, the anime wouldn’t feel distinct or substantial.”

As a passionate gamer, I’m super excited that “Dandadan” is set to debut its anime adaptation this October! However, as of now, no specific release date has been announced yet. Keeping my fingers crossed, I’ll be tuning into Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, ADN, and Muse to catch the latest episodes simultaneously with Japan’s broadcast. Can’t wait for this anime adventure to begin!
