WWE SummerSlam: Drew McIntyre Defeats CM Punk in a Brutal Grudge Match

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that the SummerSlam showdown between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre was nothing short of epic. Having followed both wrestlers since their early days, I’ve seen them grow, falter, and rise again – a journey that mirrors my own gaming career in many ways.

At SummerSlam, CM Punk made his grand comeback, squaring off against Drew McIntyre in what’s being hailed as the ultimate grudge match. Since January, Punk has been out of action following the Royal Rumble. Interestingly, Seth Rollins, who’s had past issues with both men, was the special guest referee. Rollins emphasized that he wouldn’t tolerate their verbal jabs while he’s doing his job. On the other hand, McIntyre has been openly critical of Punk since rejoining WWE. Their feud isn’t limited to ring banter; it extends to social media exchanges and has occasionally escalated into physical altercations.

In their confrontation, they immediately began exchanging powerful blows without delay. Throughout the fight, Rollins was frequently knocked unconscious, hindering both combatants from securing pins. This infuriated McIntyre immensely, yet Rollins maintained his composure. However, when Punk started verbally attacking him, Rollins loudly declared that WWE is “his territory” and that “he doesn’t want Punk around” – a sentiment he’s expressed since Punk arrived in November. After manhandling him, Punk eventually hoisted him up for the GTS, sending him crashing to the ground. It appeared then that Punk would emerge victorious until McIntyre retaliated with a Claymore, vanquishing Punk and reasserting his dominance.

Punk has no shortage of history in the city of Cleveland. Both his WWE and UFC careers have been cursed by the city, which is something Punk has acknowledged and poked fun at several times. While McIntyre has gotten his win back now after Punk prevented him from winning the title several times, with Bad Blood coming up it’s hard to imagine that the feud won’t boil over to another match. This rings even more true when considering how personally Punk has taken everything having to do with AJ and Larry.
