Billions Actor Akili McDowell Arrested and Charged With Murder

As a devoted fan who has followed Akili McDowell‘s journey since his breakout role in “David Makes Man,” these recent events have left me utterly stunned and disheartened. The young man, who once portrayed a character that resonated so deeply with my own experiences, now finds himself entangled in a tragic situation far removed from the silver screen.

Akili McDowell is facing serious allegations.

The performer, notable for roles in ‘David Makes Man’ on OWN and ‘Billions’, was taken into custody and accused of murder, following a lethal shooting incident in Houston that took place on July 20th. This information has been verified by the authorities.

Based on a statement from Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on August 3, homicide detectives have charged Akili McDowell (age 21) with murder. The charges stem from the fatal shooting of Cesar Peralta (age 20). McDowell has been apprehended and is now being held at the Harris County Jail.

Gonzalez affirmed that the inquiry continues, and he invited anyone with relevant details to reach out to the department.

Previously reported by Gonzalez, on August 20, Harris County deputies arrived at an apartment building parking lot to find an adult man who had been shot and unfortunately passed away at the location itself. The incident also mentioned that possible suspects had escaped from the scene.

It has not been confirmed yet how McDowell was identified as a suspect and apprehended.

Besides the arrest and murder charge on August 1, Harris County’s online jail records indicate that McDowell was additionally accused of theft. The combined bond for these two suspected offenses is set at $400,210.

On August 6, he’s set to appear in court regarding the theft accusation, while another court date is scheduled for October 9 concerning the murder allegations.

TopMob News has reached out to McDowell’s attorney for comment but has not yet heard back.

At the age of 16, McDowell got his major debut in the 2019 series “David Makes Man,” where he took on the lead character.

At the time, McDowell reflected on the ways he related to David as a character.

“He emphasized to Vulture in September 2019 that this audition was crucial for him because, in truth, he related to David’s upbringing by a single parent and the responsibilities he bore at a young age. Similarly, he has experienced feeling like the primary decision-maker in his own life.”

McDowell explained, “His primary concern is looking after his mother. He doesn’t want her to stress over David. He believes David will handle his responsibilities and accomplish tasks. I can relate to this sentiment from my own life.”
