As a seasoned sports enthusiast who has followed the Olympics for decades, I must say that this year’s games are nothing short of inspiring!
Now that’s one way to honor a Snap streak.
2024 Olympics gold medalist rower Justin Best, who was part of the men’s four winning team from Team USA on Aug. 1 in Paris, is returning home not only with his victory but also with a new title – fiancé.
On August 5, the 26-year-old gentleman popped the question to his girlfriend of seven years, Lainey Duncan, in a setting filled with 2,738 yellow roses. This number holds special significance as it matches the unbroken Snapchat streak they’ve maintained since their high school days when they shared the stage as co-stars in their school musical.
“Justin expressed his deep feelings by kneeling before the Eiffel Tower and saying, ‘Lainey Olivia Duncan, you are my heart’s delight.’ He emphasized that he has shared every moment with her from the very beginning.”
Justin shared that he recognized Lainey’s uniqueness right from their initial date, as she wholeheartedly supported his Olympic aspirations, encouraging him with the words, “Go ahead and chase your dream.”
He went on saying, “You’re breathtakingly attractive, extraordinarily smart. The generosity you show is beyond compare.” In other words, he adores you deeply. As far as he knows, there isn’t a single person who doesn’t cherish you.
Naturally, he had been saving the most remarkable moment for the finale. Turning to the young lady, who was 26 years old, he expressed, “This is going to be the most effortless question I’ll ever ask. I long to devote the remainder of my life with you and start a family together. Lainey, will you become my wife?”
Instantly, Lainey responded with a resounding ‘yes’, followed by a warm embrace that culminated in a kiss. In the heat of the moment, Lainey accidentally smeared her red lipstick on Justin’s face. With a chuckle, she teased him saying, “You’ve got a stunning new look!”
As for how Snapchat continues to be a vital part of their relationship?
Justin explained to her, “We’ve definitely been chatting on Snapchat. At the moment, our snap streak stands at 2,738. In essence, that’s like having 2,738 yellow roses sent through Snapchat. Our love has now found a way to live forever.”
Lainey could not stop smiling, saying, “I am so, so happy. This is the best day of my life!”
And despite being an Olympian, Justin had plenty of nerves to contend with before the proposal.
He shared with Today that he was just as anxious as he used to be before standing at the starting line. He admitted, “If I had a heart rate monitor on, it could possibly read around 130 beats per minute.”
He added, “I got the gold and the girl—and she got the diamond!”
As a lifestyle expert who has had the privilege of witnessing countless love stories unfold over the years, I must say that the engagement between Liu Yuchen and Huang Yaqiong is truly heartwarming. Their shared passion for badminton, combined with their undeniable chemistry, makes their union a perfect match on and off the court.
She shared with Olympics.com following the proposal, “I was taken aback by the engagement ring. With my focus being on training to achieve the title of Olympic champion, I had not anticipated this.”
In the Olympic Village prior to the games, Argentine men’s handball player Pablo Simonet also asked his girlfriend Maria Campoy, who is part of the country’s women’s hockey team, to marry him. He shared this happy news on Instagram, saying “The love of my life said yes.”
