AEW's Tony Khan Breaks Silence on Shane McMahon Meeting: "It's a Big Thing."

As a longtime wrestling enthusiast with decades of immersion in the squared circle, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the prospect of Shane McMahon potentially joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Tony Khan’s meeting with the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” was like a dream come true for many fans who have been clamoring for this very moment.

Last month, Tony Khan, president of AEW, had a meeting with Shane McMahon. This encounter came after many rumors suggested that Shane might join All Elite Wrestling. As WWE Hall of Famer and AEW commentator Jim Ross hinted, the idea wasn’t as far-fetched as fans might think. The possibility arises due to Shane being a free agent in the professional wrestling world. He was released from WWE back in February 2022 without being re-signed after his single appearance at WWE WrestleMania 39. The details of Khan’s meeting with Shane centered around various topics, including potential future possibilities.

Shane-o-Mac’s wrestling future remains a hot topic.

In conversation with Sedano & Kap, AEW President Tony Khan shared insights on his encounter with Shane McMahon, characterizing their meeting as a significant event or important occasion.

“Khan stated that it’s quite significant and thrilling, adding he enjoyed their conversation. As for the future, he finds this period in AEW particularly exhilarating,” (paraphrased sentence)

It’s said that Khan and Shane allegedly crossed paths for the first time on the 29th of July, in the afternoon, at an office situated within a private airport in Arlington. This encounter happened to be their initial face-to-face meeting.

Khan stated, “I had no prior encounter with him, yet our first discussion was filled with much anticipation. I found it intriguing enough to engage and I hold him in high esteem. Despite never having met him before, he gave off a warm and friendly vibe. Upon sitting down for a chat, he proved to be captivating. Our conversation about wrestling was delightful and engaging. He appears to be quite knowledgeable in the field and I found him genuinely impressive. A mutual friend, a significant figure in professional wrestling, introduced us and placed us in a group chat. The discourse was enlightening, and it’s perfectly normal for a couple of enthusiasts to share their thoughts about wrestling.”

After the meeting, Shane’s initial comments seemed to play down the possibility of a future professional collaboration, instead emphasizing their common passion for professional wrestling.

In a statement, Shane mentioned that Tony and I were introduced by a mutual friend and had an enjoyable conversation. Our discussion mostly revolved around our shared passion for business and the joys and hurdles associated with working within a family. He also expressed his congratulations on AEW’s five-year anniversary and excitement to see how the company develops in the future.
