Nelly Furtado Shares Rare Insight Into Life With Her 3 Kids

As a dedicated fan of Nelly Furtado, I must say that her journey as a mother and a musician continues to inspire me. Her ability to balance family life with her music career is nothing short of remarkable. It’s heartwarming to see her oldest daughter, Nevis, not only helping her navigate the digital world but also contributing to her upcoming album.

Being a mom isn’t throwing Nelly Furtado off.

The popular singer known as “Promiscuous” recently shared some personal experiences about raising her three children – a 20-year-old daughter, Nevis Gahunia, whom she had with ex-partner Jasper Gahunia, and a 6-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son she shares with another ex named Hodgy. She also discussed how her old songs were introduced to them for the first time.

In a special interview with TopMob News, Nelly stated, “When my music began gaining popularity on TikTok, my eldest daughter was still a teenager, around 16 or 17. At that point, I wasn’t very familiar with it because I was mostly at home taking care of the little ones.”

After some guidance from my oldest daughter, I finally took the plunge into the world of social media by creating my very own TikTok account. She was the one who showed me the ropes, and now, as a 45-year-old, I can proudly say that I know how to make my first TikTok video! (Don’t forget to catch me on TopMob News tomorrow, Aug. 7, at 11 p.m.)

Moreover, as the social media platform broadened music reach beyond only her children to younger audiences, Nelly also sought help from her 20-year-old in compiling tracks for her forthcoming album titled “7”, set to be released on September 20th.

She shared, “It’s fortunate that she joins me in the workshop and assists me too.” She continued, “There’s nothing more delightful than collaborating creatively with your child, especially when you can produce something unique together.”

Indeed, Nevis played such an instrumental role in assisting her mother that she was credited as an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) member for the forthcoming album.

In the course of this adventure, I found myself not alone, but side by side with you all. It’s been an enlightening process, where we’ve both grown and evolved, much like nurturing a shared project. For me, it has been a rekindling of my love for music within the confines of the studio, while I believe she too has found her own passion for it blossom in this journey.

Nelly’s forthcoming album marks her return since 2017 with “The Ride,” and it’s shaping up to be her most impressive yet. The vocalist behind “Maneater” has openly stated that she invested significantly more effort into this project compared to her debut, “Whoa, Nelly!”.

Nelly admitted that he had never dedicated as much effort to anything as he did for this particular project. He spent years creating his first album, but this one was different – it was a non-stop creative journey from start to finish, filled with endless hours and numerous song options. It was like an exciting party where he had to carefully select and refine the best of his creativity into this lively collection of songs.

Of course, Nelly promises she can still make you cry.

She noted that they were also quite emotional, but with a unique blend. “Their music,” she said, “often carries a touch of sadness intertwined with moments of joy.”
