Jack Black vows Tenacious D will “be back” after Trump comment backlash

As a long-time fan who has followed Jack Black’s career since his days with Tenacious D, I am relieved to hear that they will be “back” after taking a much-needed break. It’s clear that this incident has shaken them both deeply, and it’s important for artists to take time to reflect and regroup when faced with such controversial situations.

Jack Black assured fans that the musical duo, Tenacious D (consisting of himself and Kyle Gass), plans to return after a recent uproar occurred in the past month.

Due to a comment made by Gass regarding the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, the actor decided to cancel all remaining performances on Tenacious D’s world tour.

The comment was made during a show at the ICC Sydney Theatre the day after the former US president survived an attempt on his life when a gunman shot at him during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

At the performance, a birthday cake was brought out for Gass, who was then asked to make a birthday wish. His response was, “Hope they don’t forget Trump next time.”

In a recent conversation with Variety, Black expressed: “It’s time for a pause. Everyone requires a rest at some point, and we’ll return again.”

He added: “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”

After his remark, Gass issued an apology on Instagram, labeling his comment as “extremely inappropriate, risky, and regrettable,” but the post was later taken down.

“On Sunday night in Sydney, the impromptu act I performed was unsuitable, risky, and a regrettable error,” the apology stated.

“I firmly oppose any form of violence directed towards anyone, regardless of the circumstances. The incident was indeed a terrible tragedy, and I deeply regret my poor judgment.”

In my humble opinion, allow me to extend my sincerest apologies to those who may have been disappointed by my work. I deeply regret any discomfort or distress it might have brought about.

On Instagram, Black expressed that Gass’s remark took him by surprise. He also mentioned that any further creative projects they had planned together have been temporarily halted.

In a clear statement, the comedian expressed that they would never endorse hateful speech or provoke political violence under any circumstances.

As a seasoned musician with years of experience under my belt, I have come to realize that sometimes, difficult decisions must be made for the greater good. After much thought and introspection, I find myself unable to carry on with the Tenacious D tour and all future creative plans. I am humbled by the unwavering support and understanding of our fans throughout this journey, and it is their love that drives me to make this choice. I believe that stepping away now will ultimately allow me to return stronger and more focused in the future.
