As a music enthusiast who has been following the industry for over two decades now, I must say that this year’s nominations are nothing short of spectacular! The diversity and creativity showcased in each category truly reflect the global nature of music today.
In 2024’s MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift is at the top of the pack with a total of 10 nominations. Among these, she received eight nods for her joint work with Post Malone titled “Fortnight.”
In addition, Fortnight is contending for the prestigious Video of the Year accolade, an award Taylor Swift has taken home for the past two consecutive years and a total of four times. If she wins again, she will be the only artist to have achieved a three-peat and won five times in this category.
In the contest for Artist of the Year, not only is the renowned musician a candidate, but they’re up against tough competition, including Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Eminem, and SZA.
In the footsteps of Swift, who received nine nominations, we find Post Malone. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Sabrina Carpenter have all earned six nominations each.
Megan Thee Stallion and SZA trail slightly behind with five nominations each, while LISA, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims follow closely with four nominations each.
As a music enthusiast with over two decades of experience in the industry, I must say that this year’s nominee list is particularly exciting for me. With 29 first-time contenders, it’s refreshing to see so many new faces and voices making their mark.
The 2023 VMAs will broadcast live from UBS Arena on September 10th at 8pm Eastern Time (ET)/Pacific Time (PT), marking their debut in the New York location after spending the past two years at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
