Cosmere RPG Breaks Kickstarter Record For Biggest TTRPG Launch

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for intricate fantasy worlds and a penchant for epic storytelling, I must say that the launch of the Cosmere RPG has truly stirred my excitement. With a lifelong love for Brandon Sanderson’s works and an unquenchable thirst for immersive tabletop gaming, this Kickstarter campaign has catapulted me back to the days of eagerly awaiting new books in his series.

The record-breaking launch of the “Cosmere Role-Playing Game” (RPG) on Kickstarter has surpassed the initial day funding for the largest Kickstarter campaign for a tabletop RPG, which was held by Avatar Legends in 2021 with $1.15 million. In under a day, the Cosmere RPG campaign raised over $4.3 million and has now reached approximately $4.78 million in pledges after about 24 hours. The Cosmere RPG is a “living RPG” based on the worlds created by Brandon Sanderson.

Based on ENWorld’s data that monitors tabletop RPG crowdfunding campaigns, the Cosmere RPG has become the third most successful tabletop RPG crowdfunder in history. Only the Avatar Legends and the Gloomhaven Grand Festival project (which supported the creation of a Gloomhaven RPG) have raised more funds so far.

The recently introduced “Cosmere Role-Playing Game” is rooted in the literary works of Brandon Sanderson, a widely recognized fantasy novelist who constructs his stories predominantly within the Cosmere universe. Although each of Sanderson’s series can be enjoyed individually, they collectively weave an intricate backstory and feature magical systems that trace their origins to a single source. Notably, Sanderson achieved the record for the largest Kickstarter campaign ever, amassing more than $41.7 million to self-publish multiple books he wrote during the pandemic.
