The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Gets Xbox, Steam Release Date

Following its debut on PlayStation and the Epic Games Store, “The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria” is also making its way to Xbox Series X|S and Steam. On Wednesday, developers Free Range Games and publishers North Beach Games announced the broader releases of “Return to Moria,” with the Golden Road update set to launch simultaneously. This update will introduce new features such as the widespread availability of a sandbox mode and fresh weapons and armor.

In a departure from previous Lord of the Rings games, Return to Moria offers an engaging survival-crafting experience set among the dwarves of Middle-earth. Initially released in December on PlayStation and Epic Games Store, it received mixed reviews from critics. However, with its wider release and new content, players now have a fresh opportunity to explore this game and form their own opinions about it.

In the tale “The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, you’ll accompany Dwarves on an exciting journey aimed at reclaiming their ancient home, Moria, nestled beneath the Misty Mountains. Working together, you will face challenges such as survival, crafting, construction, and exploration within the vast, legendary mine network. In simpler terms, all variations of “Return to Moria” will allow players across different platforms to play together. This means that those who have been active since December, even on newer systems, can still enjoy the game with others. The upcoming Golden Update will introduce new features such as the option to pause the game for solo players, additional difficulty settings, and a sandbox mode, which was previously exclusive to the “Return to Moria” version available on the Epic Games Store.

Originally accessible only through the Early Access Game Store (EGS) version of “Return to Moria”, the official release of Sandbox Mode now caters to gamers on all platforms, offering a chance for independent exploration and experimentation within the mountain. This non-linear mode showcases the full capabilities of the game’s procedural generation system, with each playthrough featuring different random seeds that result in diverse layouts and difficulties.
