Absolutely, just as you’d expect for a drama set in the Mediterranean, The Mallorca Files was indeed filmed right on the beautiful island of Mallorca itself.

The filming for the upcoming third season was carried out from March to July 2023, on a beautiful Spanish island, and showcased several captivating spots like the Plaza Cort in Palma.

In a chat with Express.co.uk, Rhys shared his enthusiasm for the filming spots this time, stating, “I loved the ocean! We had the chance to ride on boats and jet skis, which was thrilling. Of course, things were made a bit larger-than-life.”

For the very first time, Looman shared that we had ventured off the island. Earlier, our experiences were confined to the island alone, but this time, we found ourselves sailing the sea – it was an absolute blast!

Filming at the horse ranch (series 2, episode 6)

In episode six, “El Rancho Rey” was shot at Rancho Grande Park (Son Serra de Marina), which is situated near the northeastern coast and close to Can Picafort.

This is Mallorca’s largest horse ranch, and is a popular tourist attraction.

In my admiration, I’d recount that the breathtaking mountain landscapes, showcased particularly in the chase scenes, were captured within the Serra Tramuntana mountain range, encompassing Inca, Miranda, and Max. Their pursuit generally trailed along the path encircling Puig de Masanella, Mallorca’s second tallest summit.

Birdwatching at the wetlands (series 2, episode 5)

In this episode, I found myself captivated by the breathtaking beauty of “Paraiso Parque Natural.” The filming location was none other than Es Salobrair de Campos, a mesmerizing wetlands area nestled near Es Trenc in the southeastern part of the island. This exquisite haven boasts an intricate tapestry of dunes and lagoons that serve as a magnet for various species of wildlife. Among these inhabitants are the graceful flamingos, soaring sea eagles, and vast expanses of reeds. Additionally, this paradise is a beacon not only for migrating birds but also for birdwatchers who come to marvel at this spectacle of nature.

As a frequent traveler who has explored many corners of Mallorca, I can confidently say that one of my favorite spots is Puerto Pollensa. Nestled at the northernmost tip of this beautiful island, it offers a serene and laid-back atmosphere that is unlike any other place I’ve visited. With its charming fishing village vibe and stunning coastline, Puerto Pollensa has a special charm that captivates me every time I return. It feels like stepping back in time to a simpler, more relaxed way of life – something that is increasingly rare in today’s fast-paced world. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or a base from which to explore the rest of Mallorca, Puerto Pollensa should definitely be on your list.

The football stadium (series 2 episode 4)

In this episode of The Mallorca Files, they achieved an impressive feat: they filmed at the real stadium of Real Mallorca Football Club, Estadi Son Moix.

Situated northwest of our nation’s heart, this grandest football arena in the Balearic Islands is our focal point. Permission for filming the initial sequences was necessitated, as they were captured during a break in a live football game, with spectators watching intently.

The restaurant and the steps (series 2 episode 3)

As a seasoned traveler and food enthusiast, I must say that this episode transported me right into the heart of the Mediterranean, to a Michelin-starred restaurant nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Serra Tramuntana mountain range in Mallorca. The setting was nothing short of enchanting, with its elegant architecture and lush gardens, providing the perfect backdrop for an evening of exquisite cuisine and high drama.

Outside the restaurant, an exciting and intense chase scene was filmed in Pollensa, utilizing the well-known 365 Calvari Steps. This location provided a grueling pursuit, with the steps culminating at a quaint chapel surrounded by cypress trees.

In the opening scene of “Son of a Pig,” we find Diego Gris (played by Alberto Maneiro) cruising along a scenic, narrow country road in Mallorca, with his flashy convertible as he enjoys the picturesque countryside views.

In an attempt to unravel the enigma surrounding a presumably deceased man, Max and Miranda journey to his secluded mountain residence. Upon arrival, they soon find out that the entire village is largely controlled by the influential and affluent Gris family, who wield significant power within the community.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of capturing scenes in the enchanting town of Artà, hidden within the northeastern countryside. Artà, a charming gem, nestles inland from the coast, offering a perfect backdrop for our filming.

The episode also features scenes shot outside a church – using the Parroquia de Santa María de Sine, in Sineu. You can see it in flashback scenes to the Spanish Civil War.

The concert in the caves (series 2, episode 1)

In the first episode of season two, we explore the stunning Caves of Drach located in Porto Cristo, a beautiful coastal town on the eastern side of Mallorca.

During the Middle Ages, these caves had long been discovered, boasting an array of stunning geological features such as intricate rock formations, along with an internal lake that ranks among the largest underwater lakes globally.

1935 marked the installation of electric lighting, which has since transformed into a renowned tourist magnet. Tourists can immerse themselves in an experience that encompasses a 10-minute classical music performance and a boat voyage on Lake Martel.

The building dates back to the 17th century, but it has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme. It is located by the Placa Major, in the centre of Palma old town.

The beach (series 2, episode 1)

At the start of season two, a woman is shown tragically taking her life by drowning in the sea. This heart-wrenching scene was filmed at Cala Anguila, a picturesque beach located in Porto Cristo Novo, along the eastern coast of Mallorca.

As a nature enthusiast, I find myself captivated in this serene bay nestled between towering cliffs. The scenery is adorned with the dots of stone pines and exotic palms, creating an idyllic landscape that soothes my soul.

Absolutely! In the fourth episode of the first season, entitled ‘The Number One Fan’, we delve into the mystery of a missing German supermodel aboard the renowned Soller train. Remarkably, the filming for this episode was carried out directly on the Soller railway tracks themselves.

The Tren de Sóller, also known as Ferrocarril de Sóller, travels between the towns of Sóller and Palma, making stops at several smaller towns en route. This historic railway has been in operation since 1912, and today its vintage trains meander through the mountains, transporting passengers (including many tourists) who delight in the stunning vistas.

The church (series 1, episode 3)

Dominic Barlow, the series producer, shared with TopMob: “For episode three of season one, we shot inside the Església de Monti-Sión de Palma. This church is situated right in the heart of Palma, the island’s capital city, and is connected to the Colegio Nuestra Señora de Monte-Sión, which happens to be a school. The courtyard was where we filmed the scene revealing the Icon, while the corridors were used when Miranda was given her tour.”

The airport scenes (series 1, episode 1)

For several days, the show was recorded at Palma de Mallorca Airport on the island, which served as the location for the thrilling chase sequences featured in the initial episode of season one’s opening scene.

Scenes within the initial episode were captured at Ses Cases del Virrey, a lodging not far from the principal town of Inca.
