As a die-hard fan of Jeremy Saulnier’s gritty, edge-of-your-seat masterpieces, I can barely contain my excitement for his latest offering, “Rebel Ridge“. Having been hooked since the raw intensity of “Blue Ruin” and the nail-biting suspense of “Green Room”, I eagerly await September 6th when this thrilling new addition to Saulnier’s oeuvre hits Netflix.
In 2013, Jeremy Saulnier’s film “Blue Ruin” caused a stir in the film festival circuit, but his subsequent movie, “Green Room” with Anton Yelchin, truly captured the hearts of genre enthusiasts. The acclaim for “Green Room” paved the way for Saulnier to produce the 2018 Netflix film “Hold the Dark.” Now, he’s back with a brand-new thriller titled “Rebel Ridge,” set to stream on Netflix starting September 6th. One reason for the delay between films was that Saulnier was briefly involved in developing Season 3 of “True Detective,” directing only two episodes from that season. As a fan, I can tell you that Netflix presents an exciting new movie titled “Terry Richmond’s Journey” where I, Aaron Pierre, step into the small town of Shelby Springs with a straightforward yet critical objective – securing my cousin’s release from danger. However, when my life savings are unfairly confiscated by law enforcement, I am left with no choice but to confront the town’s police chief, Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson), and his battle-ready officers.

Beyond the postponement of True Detective Season 3 affecting the progress of this film, as well as the impact from the coronavirus pandemic and recent writers’ and actors’ strikes, the development of Rebel Ridge has a long history. In fact, Star Wars’ John Boyega was originally cast for the project as early as 2019.
