As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who’s seen more smackdowns than I care to remember, tonight’s AEW Dynamite was nothing short of electrifying! The return of fan-favorite Hook, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown with Chris Jericho, had me on the edge of my seat.
Tonight’s AEW Dynamite showcased the comeback of a beloved figure, paving the way for a face-off against Chris Jericho, affectionately known as Mr. Learning Tree. In the meantime, Jericho’s partner Bryan Keith stepped into the ring for a solo bout with Shibata, which turned out to be a thrilling encounter. Regrettably, post-match, Jericho and Big Bill couldn’t resist their urge to gang up on Shibata. The situation seemed grim until Hook reappeared triumphantly in AEW, taking the battle to Jericho and the rest of his team, ultimately clearing the ring and setting up a future showdown.
Allies Turned Rivals
At this stage, Jericho and Hook find themselves in a competitive dynamic, with Hook aiming to humble Jericho. However, their relationship wasn’t always like this; they used to be on friendly terms, with Jericho even acting as a mentor to Hook at some point. Jericho was instrumental in training Hook and arranging a match between them as a trial.
Initially, things took a turn for the worse, which eventually resulted in a contest for the FTW Championship at AEW Dynasty. The two competitors put on an exciting show, with numerous near victories. However, Jericho threatened to use a baseball bat and ordered Hook not to provoke him further. In response, Hook flipped him off, prompting Jericho to follow through with his threat. Consequently, Jericho defeated Hook, bringing the FTW Championship under his control.
Following their difficulties with Jericho, Hook and Shibata formed an alliance with Samoa Joe, who assumed a guiding role for Hook. The duo often teamed up, but tensions escalated significantly when Jericho, in a drastic move, loaded Joe onto a forklift backstage. He then drove the forklift through a wall and buried Joe under debris, an incident that has kept him off AEW TV ever since.
Now Hook returns to seek revenge, with Joe still on the sidelines, it seems Shibata will be his ally for now. The AEW All In event is fast approaching, so it’s logical to assume that Hook may be eyeing a chance to challenge Jericho for his FTW Championship at the pay-per-view. Given Jericho’s reputation, he probably won’t grant Hook another rematch easily, but Hook has proven he knows how to make things happen. The official lineup for All In can be found below.
