As a lifelong Marvel fan who grew up watching Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, I was genuinely disappointed to learn that he wasn’t even considered for a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. The bond between Charles Xavier and Wolverine is a cornerstone of the X-Men universe, and it felt like a missed opportunity not to have him appear in this movie, especially given the villainous Cassandra Nova’s role.
The movie pairing Deadpool and Wolverine was filled with appearances by past X-Men characters from Fox films, yet one much anticipated legacy figure, Charles Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart), who played a significant role in launching the Fox Marvel universe and starred alongside Hugh Jackman in Logan, did not make an appearance. Despite the strong connection between Professor X’s story and Wolverine’s, as well as the villain Cassandra Nova, it was unexpected to discover that there were no plans for him to reprise his role in this new Deadpool adventure.
As a gaming enthusiast, I recently tuned into an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast where Shawn Levy, the director behind Deadpool and Wolverine, spilled some tea on the movie’s rumored cameos that didn’t pan out in the end. When the topic of Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, came up, Levy swiftly confirmed that there was never a time when he was involved in our film.
According to Levy, there were no talks about Stewart appearing, but the character of Cassandra was thoroughly researched by Emma Corrin due to its intriguing connection to Professor X. However, neither the appearance nor the consideration was ever on the table.
It turned out that the prediction held true for almost all characters in the initial X-Men movies produced by 20th Century Fox, except for a few initial antagonists from X-Men. The majority of unexpected cameos, however, were drawn from other Marvel properties under Fox’s umbrella.
In the upcoming Marvel Studios film featuring Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Deadpool is set to alter the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Wolverine. The movie features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with returning cast members Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford is reprising his role as Pyro from the X-Men film series, while Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra Natchios is currently just a rumor.
Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the producers for the film titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“. Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg serve as executive producers. The writers for this movie are Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. “Deadpool & Wolverine” was premiered exclusively in theaters on July 26th.
