Robert Logan, 77 Sunset Strip and Wilderness Family star, dies aged 82

As a film enthusiast who has witnessed the golden age of television, I find myself deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Logan at the ripe age of 82. His legacy as JR Hale on 77 Sunset Strip and his diverse roles across various shows and films will forever be etched in the annals of Hollywood history.

77 Sunset Strip actor Robert Logan has died at the age of 82, his family has confirmed.

On May 6th, the actor succumbed to natural causes in Estero, Florida. However, his loved ones chose to postpone sharing this sad news with the public.

The actor’s family stated this to PEOPLE: “He truly personified selfless, unconditional love, reminiscent of the ultimate form of familial or romantic love as Plato described.” They expressed their profound gratitude, feeling incredibly fortunate and blessed to have known such a remarkable individual.

In simpler terms, during seasons 4 and 5 of the ABC detective series, Logan portrayed a trendy valet named JR Hale who worked there until 1963.

As a dedicated movie buff, I stepped into the shoes of the character previously portrayed by Edward Byrnes’s Kookie. After honing his skills as a sidekick, he decided to take on a new role as a fully-fledged investigator, leaving our on-screen partnership behind.

Alongside 77 Sunset Strip, Logan also appeared in ABC’s Maverick, Surfside 6, and Claudelle.

The actor was featured not only in the 1975 film Wilderness Family, a family-oriented adventure drama, but also in its two sequels: The Further Adventures of the Wilderness Family and Mountain Family Robinson. In these movies, he portrayed construction worker Skip Robinson as part of an ensemble cast.

In addition, he portrayed Jericho Jones on NBC’s Daniel Boone television show and appeared in the films The Bridge at Remagen and Catlow.

As a cinephile looking back on my acting career, I’ve had the pleasure of being part of some memorable projects. For instance, I starred in the 1976 western adventure “Across the Great Divide” and the 1978 family adventure “The Sea Gypsies”. Additionally, you might recognize me from shows like “Dr Kildare” and “Mr Novak”.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York City, born in 1941, Logan later relocated with his family to Los Angeles during his teenage years.

Originally, he secured a baseball scholarship for the University of Arizona; however, he ultimately enrolled at Los Angeles City College instead.

One evening at a restaurant, he drew the attention of a Warner Bros talent scout and subsequently signed an agreement, marking the beginning of his journey in Hollywood’s film industry.

In addition to his acting career, he also became a part of the team sailing the racing yacht, Ticonderoga, during its history-making voyage across the Pacific Ocean to Tahiti in 1964.

Back in 1986, I crossed paths with my future spouse, the enchanting Alina, during the making of “A Night in Heaven.” We didn’t make it official until the following year, sealing our bond in marriage in 1985.

Together with his spouse, Logan leaves behind his kids Anthony and Courtney, as well as son-in-law Hayley, and three adorable granddaughters – Elsa, Ingrid, and Alma.
