As a seasoned viewer of Strictly Come Dancing, having watched the sequins sparkle and the glitter fly for years, I must say that I am always intrigued by the diverse backgrounds and experiences each contestant brings to the dance floor. This year, with the addition of Tasha Ghouri, a Love Island alumna, the competition promises to be as entertaining as ever.
The announcements for Strictly continue, bringing along a fresh group of celebrities, accompanied by an abundance of congratulations as well as the occasional constructive feedback.
Following her inclusion in the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 lineup, Love Island alumna Tasha Ghouri has faced criticism from some due to her past involvement in dance.
Ghouri, the Love Island contestant who follows only the first participant in the cherished show, has opened up regarding the reason behind the criticism he faced.
Regarding speculations on Instagram about her past experience constituting an “unfavorable advantage”, Ghouri clarified on Kiss FM that she hasn’t danced extensively for quite some time – mainly since her stint in Love Island, and now her profession has taken a completely new direction.
As a dancer with years of experience in commercial street style, I can confidently say that venturing into a new dance genre like ballet might not be my forte. My training and background have shaped me to excel in urban dance styles, and while I respect and admire the grace and precision of ballet, it’s just not something I feel naturally inclined towards or skilled at.
“It’s going to be very hard but I’m excited for a challenge.”
In 2022, Ghouri became the pioneering deaf contestant on Love Island, marking a historic first. Moreover, this remarkable individual boasts a past in commercial dance, gracing stages before their stint on the show.
Previously, contestants like Layton Williams weren’t unfamiliar with such thoughts that have been expressed before. In fact, Layton was also targeted by this kind of discussion last year.
Initially, the well-known theater actor from the West End finished as the second-place contestant during that season. However, when it was revealed he would be part of the series, people started critiquing his involvement because he’s primarily a stage performer.
During that period, Williams clarified speculations about his past involvement in certain dances similar to those on Strictly, and some of his co-contestants came to his defense against internet bullying.
Regarding Ghouri, it remains a mystery as to which dance she’ll choose initially or who her partner will be. However, her inclusion in the Strictly cast is certainly intriguing and adds a lot of anticipation.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve been added to an impressive lineup of talented individuals. Among them are Dr. Punam Krishan, singer Toyah Willcox, TV legend Wynne Evans, comedian Chris McCausland, and JLS member JB Gill. It’s a privilege to be part of this stellar cast!
Upon learning about my participation in Strictly this year, I expressed in a statement: “Pinch me, I can hardly believe I’m going to dance on Strictly Come Dancing! Ever since I was young, I’ve been captivated by the show – it’s always been a beloved Ghouri family tradition – so this feels like an amazing fulfillment of a lifelong dream.”
“I’m confident it will be a memorable event, and I aspire to do us all proud while dancing there.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Autumn.
