The Order: 1886 Developer Ready at Dawn Has Shut Down

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of melancholy at the news of Ready at Dawn’s closure. I remember the thrill of playing God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP, and the immersive experience of The Order: 1886 on PS4. Their VR titles like Lone Echo were a breath of fresh air in the gaming world, pushing boundaries and redefining what was possible in virtual reality.

Known for creating popular PSP games such as “God of War: Chains of Olympus” and “Ghost of Sparta,” along with “The Order: 1886” on PS4, the studio Ready at Dawn, established in 2003, has closed its doors. Notable for developing VR titles like “Lone Echo,” which received widespread acclaim, Meta purchased it in 2020. A sequel to “Lone Echo” titled “Lone Echo 2” was launched by Meta in 2021.

Initially, Android Central shared news about the studio’s closure. A representative from Meta subsequently verified it to Gematsu. Design director Robert Duncan then posted on LinkedIn, expressing that the studio is indeed closing down. He stated, “I’ve been with Ready at Dawn for more than ten years, and I am deeply saddened to see this talented team I hold dear being disbanded in this manner.”

Duncan is keen on helping his coworkers secure jobs. According to Android Central, it’s said that ex-employees are urged to apply for roles within Oculus Studios. As of now, Meta hasn’t confirmed any closure or given a reason for it. Ready at Dawn has been added to the list of studios like Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and SIE’s London Studio, along with many others who have recently let go of their staff across the industry. Keep an eye out for more updates in the meantime.
