As a long-time fan of quirky and intellectually stimulating detective series, I am beyond excited about CBS’s latest venture: Einstein, helmed by the dynamic duo behind Monk, Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk. Having watched Monk and its brilliant final installment, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, I have come to appreciate the team’s knack for blending humor with intricate mysteries that leave me guessing till the very end.
CBS has commissioned a pilot for a show titled “Einstein,” which is inspired by a German procedural series about Albert Einstein’s troubled yet brilliant great-grandson. This marks the network’s third attempt to adapt “Einstein.” The upcoming pilot, overseen by Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk, who are known for their work on USA Network’s popular detective show “Monk,” will be the third new project announced by CBS in quick succession, following pilots for “DMV” and “Eternally Yours.”
The Monk production crew has resumed their regular workflow, as Breckman and Zisk share executive producer roles from a screenplay written by Breckman. Meanwhile, Zisk is directing the pilot episode. Initially reported by Deadline, the series bears resemblances to both the original Monk and CBS’s Numbers.
According to the summary provided by Deadline, “this character, who is brilliant but lacks direction, happens to be Albert Einstein’s great grandson. He spends his days as a professor enjoying tenure, but his rebellious behavior often leads him into legal trouble. Eventually, he’s compelled to assist a local detective in solving her most perplexing cases.”
Alongside Intrigue’s Tariq Jalil, executive producers on this project are also Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, and Laura Beetz from Seven One Studios International. Since 2018, several creative teams have contributed to bringing the series to the American market, with Jalil playing a significant role in the process. This is actually the second attempt by Breckman and Zisk at this project.
The TV show penned by Martin Ritzenhoff and Matthias Dinter aired for three seasons on Sat.1. The show featured Tom Beck and Annika Ernst in lead roles and was adapted from a film that Ritzenhoff and Dinter had initially written.
Breckman and Zisk have re-entered the realm of peculiar mysteries with their latest production, “Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie“, which has been recognized by two Critics Choice Awards. In this film, Monk is compelled to come out of retirement following a murder that occurs during the weekend of his adopted daughter’s wedding. As the rest of Monk’s former team has returned for the wedding, they fall back into old routines and collaborate to solve the case.
Currently, you can find both “Mr. Monk’s Last Case” and the entire “Monk” series on the Peacock streaming platform. Unfortunately, it appears that “Einstein” is not available for streaming in the United States at this time.
