Euphoria star Hunter Schafer on season 3 delay: “If we do go back, that’s going to be tough”

As a devoted Euphoria fan who has witnessed the meteoric rise of its talented cast members, I find myself in a state of perpetual anticipation for season 3. The show’s ambiguous future and Hunter Schafer‘s uncertain return have left me hanging like Jules on a precipice (pun intended).

If you’re among those who are hooked on Euphoria, you might find yourself practicing extraordinary tolerance lately, given that updates about its comeback have been somewhat unclear or vague.

Although HBO’s series is confirmed to resume for season 3, featuring a time leap and several original cast members, it seems that Hunter Schafer, one of the main actors (playing Jules Vaughn), remains uncertain about the show’s future or if she will definitely reappear.

On the Call Her Daddy podcast, she confided in host Alex Cooper that she’s clueless about the developments of season 3, admitting, “If you were to ask any member of our cast, they would echo my sentiments. Essentially, a great deal has transpired.”

During a heartfelt part of the podcast, the actress became visibly emotional when discussing the passing of Angus Cloud, a cast member from Euphoria, who sadly died at the age of 25 last year.

Reflecting on the absence of Cloud in the series, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and uncertainty as we contemplate the potential of Season 3. As a supporter, I eagerly wonder how the story will unfold if our beloved character returns.

“Clearly, I’m finding it difficult to accept the turn of events and the loss of those dear to us who formed an integral part of our family. Returning might prove challenging.”

“She expressed that perhaps we could utilize that energy to create an outstanding season 3, assuming there will be one. However, she added that the recent events took everyone by surprise.”

It was revealed a month ago that production for Euphoria’s third season will start in 2025, however, no updates regarding the returning cast or new faces have been given so far. Notably, since the debut of season 1 and the release of season 2, several members of the cast have garnered international acclaim for their on-screen performances.

Recently, Schafer has taken leading roles in ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ from The Hunger Games series, ‘Cuckoo’ and ‘Kinds of Kindness’, and will soon appear in the forthcoming ‘Blade Runner 2099’ film.

Apart from Euphoria’s creator, Sam Levinson, I can’t help but marvel at how Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney have been gracing our movie screens in some of the biggest blockbusters lately. It’s not hard to imagine that he must be juggling quite a bit as he manages their demanding schedules for the series.

Although it was announced that Euphoria would continue for a third season as far back as February 2022, there’s still no word on if this will be its final run.

Casey Bloys, HBO’s head of content, stated that Sam Levinson and Zendaya would discuss the matter instead. (This sentence is more direct and easier to understand while still conveying the same information as the original.)

I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for Season 3! I’ll keep my expectations high and let the creative minds behind it decide the direction. In essence, we have faith that they know where they want to take these characters, so we’re happy to follow along with their vision.

Euphoria is available on Sky Atlantic and NOW with an Entertainment Membership.
