Saturday Night: SNL Movie Gets First Trailer

As a lifelong fan who has spent countless Saturday nights glued to my TV, eagerly awaiting the latest skits and humor from SNL, I must say that this trailer for the biopic, “Saturday Night,” left me absolutely tickled!

On Saturdays, there’s now a preview for the biopic about the iconic TV show, Saturday Night Live (SNL). Director Jason Reitman delves into the debut of SNL in his upcoming film. In the sneak peek, a young Lorne Michaels, portrayed by Gabriel LaBelle, fearlessly confronts NBC executives to express his thoughts. Willem Dafoe breathes life into the character of long-time network executive David Tebet in this new production. Rather than just a parade of famous faces, Saturday Night aims to depict the chaotic energy that marked the first broadcast. Over 90 minutes, viewers get to meet the key figures who shaped SNL into the cultural phenomenon it later became. Take a look at the trailer below for a glimpse:

Yesterday, Vanity Fair interviewed the cast and director about the upcoming film titled “Saturday Night”. This is a captivating origin story. As Lorne is being shaped, Reitman explained that he is a genius with a vision more advanced than anyone else there, at his age. It’s quite a burden for an actor to shoulder, he added. In this movie, everyone gets to have fun except for Gabe, who has to maintain the rhythm.

The filmmakers have shown exceptional precision in their work, as evident in the trailer. They spared no effort to make everything appear genuine, even constructing a replica of Studio 8H on their set. As Reitman shared, they spoke with everyone who was still alive from the opening night. This included every living cast member, writer, staff from the art department, costume and makeup, NBC pages, and members of Billy Preston’s band – basically anyone they could find.

What Is Saturday Night About?

11:30 PM on October 11, 1975 marked the moment when a fearsome group of budding comedians and scribes redefined television and culture forever. Guided by Jason Reitman and penned by Gil Kenan & Reitman, Saturday Night is a dramatization of the actual events that transpired during the 90 minutes preceding the premiere broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Brimming with wit, pandemonium, and the enchantment of an almost-failed revolution, we journey through real-time as we approach hearing those iconic words…

On a typical Saturday night, I find myself immersed in the star-studded world of “Saturday Night.” Among the talented cast, you’ll see Gabriel LaBelle, Rachel Sennott, Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt, Dylan O’Brien, Emily Fairn, Matt Wood, Lamorne Morris, Kim Matula, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Braun, Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber, Tommy Dewey, Willem Dafoe, Matthew Rhys, and the legendary J.K. Simmons. It’s a night filled with anticipation and excitement as we all gather to create something magical!
