As a curious observer of celebrity dynamics, I must say that the friendship between Nina Dobrev and Shaun White is nothing short of captivating. The duo, hailing from seemingly disparate worlds – one a renowned actress, the other an Olympic gold medalist snowboarder – have managed to form an unbreakable bond that transcends their individual accomplishments.
Nina Dobrev suffered more than physical injuries from her electric dirt bike accident months ago.
The actress who starred in “The Vampire Diaries” spoke about the emotional impact of the May accident she experienced. She revealed that the extensive healing period required for her torn ACL, meniscus, and broken knee not only physically drained her but also took a toll on her mental well-being.
Dobrev shared with TopMob News during the Shiseido Blue Project Beach Clean-Up at the 2024 US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif., on August 7, “I’m dealing with medication for my pain, feeling physical discomfort that prevents me from walking, while everyone seems to be having a great time traveling across Europe and posting fun summer photos on Instagram. It was tough mentally, and even the pain meds can affect your thoughts.”
The 35-year-old continued, “I definitely was in a depression. I had a really hard time.”
It’s surprising that Dobrev and her partner Shaun White, who are known for their active lifestyle, ended things so abruptly during her very first electric dirt bike ride.
She said, “I’d never been on a bike before, but things were going smoothly for some time. Unfortunately, at the very end, I lost control of the vehicle, causing it to wheelie. In the process, I was thrown off, and when I landed, my leg took most of the impact. The force of the landing caused my knee to fracture.”
After undergoing surgery, Dobrev intends to avoid dirt bikes and other high-risk activities, dedicating herself to her healing process instead.
Speaking recently, the former Perks of Being a Wallflower star confessed that he’s developed a sense of fear. He used to be incredibly adventurous, ready for any challenge. However, since his injury, which is part of a nine-month healing process and he’s only at three-and-a-half months, he’s still learning to walk again. As a result, the thought of returning to snowboarding or riding a dirt bike anytime soon is out of the question for him at this stage.
Dobrev intends to avoid dirt bikes and various other strenuous activities temporarily during her healing process.
“She expressed that she’s developed a sense of fear lately,” she shared. “Before the injury, I was always up for new experiences without a second thought. But now, considering it took nine months to heal fully and I’m only at month three-and-a-half into this process, I find myself having to re-learn how to walk.”
She went on to say, “Therefore, the thought of returning to snowboarding or riding a dirt bike is out of the question. However, fingers crossed, I might eventually return to volleyball, pilates, and other activities I enjoy, perhaps even heading back to the mountains again, but that may take some time.”
She’s been doing her best to stay active, utilizing a knee brace for support, and this involves venturing to Huntington Beach, California. Additionally, she’s collaborating with Shiseido, the World Surf League, and WILDCOAST to promote the use of eco-friendly products like Shiseido sunscreen, aiming to increase awareness on their benefits.
She attributes her “amazing network of support” for lifting her spirits during her healing process. Many friends visited, sent flowers and food, watched movies together, gave her shoulder massages, and took care of her, as she shared. This, in turn, significantly helped her emerge from a low point.
One of those spearheading the movement was Shaun, who had been her boyfriend for four years. In fact, he accompanied her as they journeyed to Paris to witness the 2024 Olympic Games’ opening ceremonies. It was there that she had the opportunity to display her second most valuable accessory—her cane.
It appears that they have maintained a strong and satisfying relationship, as she enthusiastically shared, “Everything is going well, and we’re incredibly content.”

Dobrev and White became friends following a joint party with companions, which included her Vampire Diaries co-stars Kayla Ewell and Candice Accola King, at the debut of The Mayfair supper club in Las Vegas’ Bellagio Resort & Casino on New Year’s Eve.
Dobrev and White appear to be fueling relationship speculation as they’ve been seen cycling together in Malibu, California. According to an insider at TopMob News, the pair started growing closer after celebrating New Year’s Eve together, with their bond reportedly strengthening even more since the COVID-19 outbreak.
They publicly acknowledged their relationship on Instagram by posting a picture where the actress is cutting White’s hair at home since hair salons were closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. In her caption under the photo, Dobrev humorously announced, “Expanding my skills: hairdresser.”

On her 32nd birthday, Dobrev re-celebrated her 31st, and White honored her by sharing pictures of them both wearing similar outfits.
Together with their friend Adam DeVine, the pair decided to dress up as characters from The Queen’s Gambit for Halloween. In this costume, White portrayed the famous character Beth Harmon, while Dobrev embodied U.S. chess champion, Benny Watts.

Following his fourth-place finish at the Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe event in the 2022 Olympics and his subsequent retirement, Dobrev conveyed her pride by stating on Instagram: “The closing of one phase signifies the start of a thrilling new one brimming with endless opportunities.” She continued, “You will always be the supreme snowboarding legend. And let’s not forget, you are also the GB.O.A.T., or Greatest Boyfriend Of All Time.”
The couple finally went red carpet official at the Top Gun: Maverick film premiere in London.
Accompanied by her boyfriend in a tuxedo, Dobrev sparkled in a scarlet Monot dress at the 28th amfAR Gala, held during the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
They observed the qualification rounds for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco before the main event, and for the special day, Dobrev donned a stylish, pale gray suit from Smythe.
The two turned up the heat while vacationing in the Maldives.
“In an Instagram post for White’s birthday, Dobrev said, ‘I certainly chose well [and he picked something rather unappealing],’ expressing it in a heartfelt tribute. ‘Happy birthday, a bit peculiar fellow. My peculiar one. @shaunwhite.'”
