Dragon Ball Is Getting a MOBA

As a lifelong Dragon Ball fan who’s spent countless hours immersed in the universe of Goku, Vegeta, and their friends, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming MOBA game, Dragon Ball Project: Multi. Growing up, I never thought I’d see the day when Dragon Ball would enter the realm of MOBAs, but here we are!

The Dragon Ball series is set to make its debut in the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) genre with the release of “Dragon Ball Project: Multi”. This game, developed by Ganbarion and published by Bandai Namco, is expected to be available on Steam and mobile platforms. A sneak peek at the gameplay has been unveiled recently, but fans will have an opportunity to test it out themselves as playtests are scheduled for this month.

For those Dragon Ball enthusiasts less accustomed to MOBAs, it’s short for “multiplayer online battle arena” – a game category that includes classics such as Dota 2 and League of Legends. More modernly, considering the gameplay presented for Dragon Ball Project: Multi today, it seems more fitting to describe this game in terms of Pokemon Unite, the MOBA featuring Pokemon which has been launched on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

In the Dragon Ball Project, matches involve two groups of four players each, with the main goal being to collect a Dragon Ball.

As a gamer, dive into the thrilling world of Dragon Ball! Unleash your power by decimating the battlefield on your own or join forces with friends and allies to capture enemy objectives. The characters you control will evolve in strength as the game progresses, granting you the opportunity to vanquish both opponents and formidable bosses.

On Thursday, they unveiled an exciting sneak peek at some iconic Dragon Ball Z characters: me (the gamer), Goku, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Majin Buu, Zamasu, Krillin, Piccolo, and Android 18, just to name a few. The preview showcased their transformations too, like when Goku and Vegeta turn Super Saiyan. There was also hinted at a Great Ape transformation, but it’s still uncertain if this is a temporary boost or part of the progressive strength system that’s common in MOBAs, where your character gets stronger as the game progresses.

The trial run for “Dragon Ball Project: Multi” starts on August 19th at 11 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, as announced by Bandai Namco. This test will last from then until September 2nd. Fingers crossed, you’ll be able to join in the fun during this period! At the moment, registration for mobile tests isn’t available, but feel free to visit the game’s Steam page here and submit a request for access.
