Michael Thomas Grant, known to many from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, will be playing the role of James, Grey Sloan Memorial’s new openly gay chaplain.

Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will soon have a new chaplain named James, played by Michael Thomas Grant from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. According to Deadline, this new character is openly gay and an Episcopal chaplain who has a soft spot for the younger patients at the hospital. His kindness, training, and spirituality make him adaptable in any situation. In his private life, James finds himself at a juncture where he’s open to love and willing to take bold steps of faith. The second episode of the 21st season of Grey’s Anatomy will introduce this character.

The introduction of Grant as James occurs after it was announced that two other actors portraying LGBTQ+ characters, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis, are leaving the show. Borelli debuted on the series during Season 14, and his character Dr. Levi Schmitt faced challenges in achieving his pediatrics fellowship goals due to a test score in the Season 20 finale. Francis made her appearance on Grey’s Anatomy in Season 19 as part of a fresh group of interns at Grey Sloan.

Known primarily for his portrayal of Leif Donnelly on NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” Grant has also made appearances in shows like “The Rookie: Feds” and “Roadies.” Additionally, he has a rich background in theater, featuring in various stage productions.

Ellen Pompeo Returning For Multiple Episodes in Season 21

Alongside the introduction of Grant for Season 21 of “Grey’s Anatomy”, fans are eagerly anticipating the reappearance of a familiar character. Previous reports have confirmed that Ellen Pompeo will reprise her role as Meredith Grey for seven episodes. As both an actress and executive producer on the show, Pompeo will also maintain her role as the series’ narrator, a position she has held since its debut in 2005. The specifics of her appearances in Season 21, whether they are consecutive or scattered throughout, have yet to be clarified. In the Season 20 finale, Meredith stepped down from the Fox Foundation following an ultimatum regarding her Alzheimer’s research project and subsequently published her findings publicly. This decision led to Catherine Fox dismissing Amelia, Teddy, and Owen in retaliation.

In Season 19, Meredith Grey, played by Pompeo, made appearances for only eight episodes. The following season, Season 20, she was seen for merely four episodes as her character moved to Boston.
