The game titled “Fields of Mistria” has now been released in Early Access on Steam! If you’re yet to hear about it, think of it as a farming simulator infused with RPG elements, much like games such as Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon.
In the mystical landscape of Mistria, you’ll be lending a hand to rebuild and revitalize a captivating town that was struck by a catastrophic earthquake. Alongside everyday activities like farming, fishing, and cultivating relationships with villagers, you’ll also embark on an extraordinary journey filled with intrigue.

Ultimate Beginners Guide
In this tutorial, I’ll cover all essential aspects to master the game completely. Whether you’re a beginner or have plans to play, this guide should prove quite useful for you! Let’s delve right into the basics by examining the Head-Up Display (HUD) first.
HUD
- Health Bar
- The red bar indicates the amount of health you have.
- Stamina Bar
- The green bar indicates the amount of stamina you currently have.
- Mana
- Mana is required for performing spells which are unlocked when you descend deeper into the mines. Mana is replenished over the course of a few days or by using mana items.
- Buffs | Debuffs
- The buffs or debuffs that your character is under will be shown in the area below your Mana. Most of them will have a timer bar underneath which shows the amount of time they will last for.
- Mining Floor | Location
- This number shows the floor that you are currently on when you are inside the mines. When outside the mines, the name of the location you are in will be shown instead.
- Hotbar
- The bar at the bottom shows the items that your character currently has. You can equip tools through this as well. At the start of the game, you will only have one Hotbar which is represented by “A”. But later on you can expand this and get more Hotbars such as “B” and so on.
- Weather
- This icon represents the current weather inside your game.
- Season
- This is the name of the season that is currently underway in your game.
- Time
- The current in-game time is shown here. Some events are time bound so this is pretty handy.
- Tesserae
- The currency of this game is called Tesserae. It is used for getting a lot of things in the game.
- Essence
- Performing various tasks such as mining, fishing, etc. will get you Essence. This is then later used to get skill upgrades.
- Day and Date
- The in-game day and date are shown here.
- Spell
- This is the shortcut for performing your Spell. You can equip any one skill here as you like.
- Map
- Shortcut for opening the map.
- Main Menu
- Shortcut for opening the main menu.
Health
In certain locations like mines, the game shows a “Life Meter” to indicate your health status. This is crucial because in these environments, you may encounter hostile creatures that could cause your demise. If your life points drop to zero, you’ll be teleported to Valen’s office, effectively concluding your day. Come morning, you’ll find yourself wide awake at 10:00 AM on the next day.
Stamina
Endurance is crucial for completing numerous tasks, and when it drops to zero, you’ll find yourself unable to carry on. You can restore your energy levels by consuming certain foods or taking a brief soak in the refreshing waters of Juniper’s Bathhouse.
Character Customization
As you dive into the game, you’ll first encounter a character customization interface that’s common in many Role-Playing Games (RPGs). This game offers an impressive range of character customization options, which, combined with its unique pixelated aesthetic, creates a visually stunning experience.
In this game, you have the freedom to customize multiple aspects of your character, such as altering features, hairstyles, outfits, accessories, and even the pronouns used for them. Additionally, each item comes with a range of color choices for personalized style.
If finding it challenging to personalize your in-game character because of numerous choices, don’t fret! The customization is not set in stone. Feel free to modify your character at any point during the game. Additionally, you can even store outfit combinations as presets, making it simple to switch between them whenever suits you best.
Basic Movement
One remarkable aspect of this game is its versatile movement system, which lets you dive into the water immediately with no prerequisites, and that’s not all – it also allows for jumping, enabling you to effortlessly leap over chasms and small boulders without needing to excavate them.
As a seasoned adventurer who has spent countless hours exploring the vast, mysterious underwater world, I can confidently say that one of the most thrilling discoveries you can make while swimming around are those small, intriguing circles, like the one shown in the image below. These enigmatic orbs have always piqued my curiosity and often led me to hidden treasures when I’ve interacted with them. So, don’t hesitate to give them a try on your underwater escapades – who knows what secrets they might reveal!
Map
For more convenient navigation around the town of Mistria within the game, you’ll find a comprehensive map detailing different spots and resident locations. Additionally, these villagers’ locations are indicated on the map. If a villager’s icon appears gray, it signifies that you haven’t interacted with them so far in your gameplay.
As a seasoned adventurer with years of exploring diverse lands under my belt, I can confidently say that one of the best ways to quickly get acquainted with the local villagers is by visiting the inn on Friday evenings. Having traversed countless settlements, I’ve come to find that this time and place is like a magnet for the townsfolk, drawing them together in a unique blend of camaraderie and curiosity. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about their lives, their stories, and maybe even pick up some valuable information or insights that could prove useful on your journey. So, my fellow traveler, if you want to immerse yourself in the heart of the village life, don’t hesitate – make Friday at the inn a regular part of your itinerary. Trust me; you won’t regret it!
Town Rank
In Mistria, one of your objectives is to elevate its standing, which we refer to as its “town level”. You can achieve this by accumulating “reputation” or simply “fame”. You can acquire reputation in several ways such as selling goods, completing tasks assigned by villagers, or contributing to the local museum. As you progress through each town level, you will be rewarded with various benefits. Currently, these are the available town levels in the following sequence:

Renown Summary
At the end of your day, whether it’s time for sleep or you’re about to lose consciousness, you’ll receive a convenient overview, known as a “summary,” that highlights the renown points you accumulated and the activities responsible for this gain.
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in various video games, I can wholeheartedly affirm that one of the most effective methods for amassing a significant amount of renown is by completing quests. Through my gaming journey, I have learned that this approach not only rewards players with valuable reputation points but also provides an engaging and satisfying narrative experience.
Rewards
As soon as I hit the town rank, I’ll be able to claim my rewards from the chest situated to the left of the quest board.
Quests
Engaging with the quest board displays all the tasks assigned by the villagers that you can currently take on. Since these quests have no expiration date, it’s a good idea to accept every single one.
In most cases, you’ll need to gather specific items for the quests. Once you have them, head over to the person who gave you the quest, known as the ‘Quest Giver’. Interacting with them will finish the quest, and you’ll receive your well-deserved reward.
The Museum
At The Museum situated in The Narrows, you have the opportunity to contribute specific items to complete collections and receive incentives. Upon entering, locate the book on the table and engage with it. You’ll then see two options: either “Donate” or “View the Wings”.
Donation
Choosing the “Donate” option will display a menu where you can contribute items from your stock that are emphasized. Items appearing as grayed-out cannot be donated. The contributed items will be placed directly into their designated collections without further action required.
Wings
Pressing “View the Wings” will show you the screen depicted below. In all, there are 4 wings: Archaeology, Fish, Flora, and Insects.
Sets
Beneath each wing, there’s a collection of sets. Every set needs exactly 5 items that match its kind in order to be fully filled.
Skill Upgrades (Perks)
On the third day into the game, you’ll be able to access Caldarus’s statue in your village, a place that grants benefits for your skills. To unlock these skill advantages, you’ll need Essence, which can be acquired through daily tasks like farming, mining, or fishing.

In your village, there are 7 distinct skills for which you can earn bonuses from Caldarus’s statue.

Tiers
In this system, each skill comes with multiple levels or stages, and for every level, you’ll find four benefits or advantages referred to as ‘perks’. As you progress through the game, you unlock these tiers at 15-level intervals. To gain insight about a specific perk, just click on it. The more powerful a perk is, the higher the cost in Essence for learning it.
Mining
On the sixth day of Spring, you’ll receive the mission titled “Re-opening The Mines.” However, to access these mines, you’ll first need to achieve the rank of Stone Town. Before embarking on the mining adventure, ensure you’ve finished the quest “Do Bro a Favor,” which can be obtained from the notice board. This quest provides you with a Pickaxe.
In the mine, a variety of ores can be found. However, watch out because hostile creatures known as mobs are also present, dealing quite a bit of harm. To stay safe, it might be wise to bring some health and stamina boosting items along on your journey into the mine.
Elevator
On every fifth floor, there’s a conveniently located elevator for effortless traveling up or down to those levels.
Combat Skill
On the first level of the mine, there’s another statue of Caldarus. Interacting with this statue grants you special benefits for both your Combat and Mining abilities.
Farming
Unlike mining, farming is a peaceful and tranquil activity. The process of farming is quite simple. Initially, you till the soil with a hoe, then place your seeds into the tilled ground. Afterward, it’s essential to water them daily until they mature. Once they’re fully grown, you can easily harvest them. To expand your farm, a shovel comes in handy.
How to get the farming tools
In the initial stages of the game, you’ll receive necessary tools and some seeds during the tutorial. Later on, you can purchase a shovel from the general store using 500 Tesserae.
Ranching
To begin with ranching, it’s essential to secure suitable accommodations for your animals first. You can acquire these housing designs by purchasing Tesserae from the Carpenter’s Shop, which contain blueprints for different types of animal housing. Once you have the plans, you’ll need to gather the necessary materials and construct the accommodation according to the provided blueprint.
After constructing the animal shelters on your own farm, consider acquiring animals to inhabit them. You can find and bring these animals home through Hayden’s Farm, which lies in the southern direction from your property.
From my personal experience as a pet owner, I strongly advise everyone to always ensure they return their pets to their homes after letting them out. I’ve had instances where my furry friends didn’t manage to find their way back, causing me great distress. It’s not only frustrating for the pet but also for you when they get upset with you for being separated for too long. So, always keep this in mind and make it a habit!
Breeding
You can also encourage your animals to reproduce by offering them special treats in a heart shape, available at Hayden’s Shop. Remember to check that there is enough room and ensure your animals each have at least two hearts full before feeding them.
Fishing
To go fishing, you’ll initially require a fishing tool, specifically a Fishing Rod. You can pick up a slightly worn one from the local Tackle Shop situated at the Beach for 500 Tesserae.
In this game, angling is quite straightforward – all you need to do is toss out your fishing line, then sit back and let the fish take the bait. Once a fish nibbles, just reel in your line quickly to snag it!
As I cast my line into the water, I notice a shadow that tells me the size of the fish lurking below – generally speaking, the larger the fish, the more elusive it tends to be. Later on, I can cash in this rare catch for some valuable Tesserae or choose to donate it to The Museum, adding another fascinating specimen to their collection.
Archaeology
At archaeological sites and several places across Mistria, you’ll encounter circular patches similar to those shown in the provided image. To uncover the concealed item beneath, use either a Pickaxe or a Shovel for digging purposes.
Villagers and Relationships
In the vibrant town of Mistria, a diverse array of intriguing characters reside. Each villager has their own distinct dialogue, creating a rich and engaging atmosphere. You are free to pursue romantic relationships with any character by enhancing your bond with them. This can be achieved by presenting them with gifts that they either enjoy or adore.
Global Inventory System
Among the game’s many valuable aspects, one standout feature is its implementation of a shared inventory system. This means that when you’re engaged in crafting or cooking, the game will instinctively search your storage chests for the necessary items. Therefore, you won’t always have to personally carry these items around.
