Alan Wake 2 Has Recouped “Most” of its Development and Marketing Budget

As a devoted fan who has been eagerly awaiting the return of Alan Wake since his thrilling debut, I can confidently say that Alan Wake 2 has not only met but exceeded my expectations. The game’s blend of suspense, horror, and intrigue is unparalleled, and its captivating narrative keeps me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

Last year, Alan Wake 2 received extensive critical praise and numerous accolades upon release, even if its commercial performance didn’t quite reach the same level of success. However, it has continued to sell well. Interestingly, it became Remedy Entertainment’s fastest-selling game ever with over 1.3 million copies sold initially. Although it hasn’t recouped its budget yet, it’s steadily moving towards that target.

In their latest financial report, Remedy Entertainment emphasized the debut of the first expansion for Alan Wake 2, titled Night Springs, along with the news about its forthcoming physical edition. They further mentioned that the sales of the survival horror sequel have largely covered the expenses related to its development and promotion.

A notable event during the quarter was the launch of the “Night Springs” expansion pack for “Alan Wake 2”, as stated by Remedy. The response from both critics and fans has been very positive. In June, it was announced that the Physical Deluxe Edition of “Alan Wake 2” will be available in October, with a Collector’s Edition following in December. At the time of writing this article, “Alan Wake 2” has almost recovered its development and marketing costs.

What percentage of the costs associated with Alan Wake 2 has already been recovered, you ask? During a recent investor call, it was disclosed that the game has recouped over 80% of its initial budget. This suggests that the game will soon reach the point where it breaks even and starts generating profits for Remedy Entertainment. With the second expansion, The Lake House, set to release in October, this milestone may be reached even sooner.

Alan Wake 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
