Reflecting upon these heartwarming moments of triumph and emotion at the Olympics, I can’t help but be moved by the raw human spirit that shines through in each image. The athletes, their emotions so vividly captured, remind me of my own experiences on the field and the powerful mix of joy, sorrow, pride, and determination that comes with competing at such a high level.
Jordan Chiles might forfeit the bronze medal she won at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which is her sole individual Olympic medal to date.
On August 10th, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a review initiated by Team USA’s coach, resulting in an increase in the score for a gymnast’s floor exercise inspired by Beyoncé in the women’s individual final at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics. The adjustment raised her score from 13.666 to 13.766, pushing her up from fifth place to third place and securing her a bronze medal.
In a Swiss court decision, they determined that the investigation shouldn’t have been allowed since it was handed in four seconds beyond the one-minute cutoff. As a result, Chile’s original lower ranking will once again stand.
The decision was handed down following an appeal lodged by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and gymnasts Ana Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, who finished fourth and fifth in the floor exercise final. Now, it’s up to the International Gymnastics Federation to make their next move.
Jordan Chiles could potentially forfeit the bronze medal she won at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which happens to be the sole individual Olympic medal she’s ever earned.
On August 10th, the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned an investigation by Team USA’s coach that initially lowered the score for a gymnast’s floor exercise inspired by Beyoncé at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics from 13.666 to 13.766, moving her up from third place to fifth and securing her the bronze medal.
In a ruling issued by the Swiss court, they determined that the investigation shouldn’t have been permitted since it was submitted four seconds late beyond the one-minute deadline. Consequently, Chile’s preliminary score will be restored to its original state.
The ruling was issued following an appeal from both Ana Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, gymnasts representing the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, who finished fourth and fifth in the floor exercise final. Now, it’s up to the International Gymnastics Federation to make a decision regarding the outcome.
Jordan, who came in third during the August 5 competition, trailing behind her U.S. teammate Simone Biles and gold medalist Rebeca Andrade from Brazil, expressed sadness by posting a string of broken heart emojis on her Instagram Stories following the court’s decision.
In response to the heated online backlash from supporters of the Romanian competitors, the 23-year-old individual stated, “I’m stepping away from social media for a while to prioritize my mental wellbeing. Thank you.”
But Jordan might keep her medal as the controversy could end with a three-way tie for bronze.
Beyond asking for the investigation into Team USA’s actions to be deemed too late, the Romanian team proposed that the final standings of their finalists and Chile’s competitors be revised. This revision would involve positioning all three athletes in third place, and awarding medals to each of them, according to a press release shared by TopMob News.
The court ordered the International Gymnastics Federation to decide the rankings for the women’s floor exercise final and distribute the medals based on the previously made decision.
Together, USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee expressed deep sadness over the court’s decision.
They posted on Instagram that the question about the complexity level of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise was asked sincerely, following what they thought were FIG regulations to guarantee correct scoring.

Currently, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation is celebrating the court’s decision on social media, specifically on Instagram, and renowned retired Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci has voiced her approval for the suggestion of sharing third place among three athletes.
In a post on her Instagram Stories, the five-time Olympic gold medalist expressed that it was an ideal choice. She also mentioned that the women earned three bronze medals.
