As a seasoned fan of superhero cinema, I must say that James Gunn‘s approach to filmmaking is truly refreshing. Unlike some studios that seem to rely heavily on reshoots, Gunn’s meticulous planning and preparation have allowed him to minimize the need for additional photography in his past projects. His emphasis on over-preparation, hiring a competent team, and challenging himself daily are admirable qualities that result in high-quality films.
In modern superhero cinema, reshoots – once considered taboo – have become standard practice. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has emphasized that additional photography is crucial to their films’ success, ensuring they capture all essential story elements. However, it seems the DC Universe’s first film isn’t planning any reshoots at this stage.
As a gamer putting on my director’s hat, I’d rephrase it like this: In a chat on Threads, I (James Gunn), the Superman director, hinted that Superman won’t need any additional filming because he’s only had one extra day of photography across his last two films. I went on to explain why I’ve been lucky enough to avoid having to go back and shoot more scenes.
Gunn emphasized on a social network platform, “It’s crucial to thoroughly prepare before diving into production. I prefer to wait until my entire team is satisfied with the final draft of the script before commencing filming. I then hire competent actors and department heads who can effectively carry out their roles.
The shooting for Superman was completed by late July, moving it into post-production before its planned summer release the following year.
What is Superman about?
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that, according to DC Studios, my hero, Superman, takes us on an emotional journey where he navigates the intricate blend of his Kryptonian roots with his Smallville, Kansas upbringing as Clark Kent. He personifies truth, justice, and a brighter tomorrow, standing tall in a world that often overlooks the power of kindness, which he embodies wholeheartedly, making it his beacon amidst the old-fashioned skepticism.
In the world of gaming, I find myself immersed in a captivating reimagining of the Man of Steel! Here’s my crew: David Corenswet takes on the dual role of Clark Kent and Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Mar?a Gabriela de Far?a as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe. This game promises an epic adventure!
Kickoff for the DC Universe begins as Creature Commandos makes its debut on Max in December, and the highly-anticipated Superman: Legacy graces the big screen on July 11, 2025.
