As a seasoned horror enthusiast with a soft spot for domestic thrillers reminiscent of the ’90s, I can hardly contain my excitement over Lily Sullivan’s casting in the upcoming film, SOULM8TE! Having grown up on a diet of Sleeping With the Enemy and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, this project promises to deliver a chilling blend of technology, loneliness, and twisted relationships that I simply can’t resist.
Actress Lily Sullivan, who featured in the previous year’s “Evil Dead Rise,” has been selected for the role in “SOULM8TE,” an upcoming spinoff of “M3GAN” directed by filmmaker Kate Dolan (“You Are Not My Mother”). This film, produced by Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, revolves around a robot equipped with artificial intelligence, created to aid a grieving man following his wife’s demise. Naturally, as one might anticipate, the man pushes the AI beyond its limits, leading the android (portrayed by Sullivan) to morph into a sinister representation of its intended function.
As Deadline first reported, this upcoming movie is said to be significantly more provocative than M3GAN. It draws inspiration from the ’90s domestic thrillers such as Sleeping With the Enemy and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. The film will be directed by Dolan, who is known for You Are Not My Mother. Originally penned by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), the script was later rewritten by Dolan based on a story conceptualized by Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan.
Essentially, Dolan considers this movie as a journey that delves into the complexities of relationships and solitude. He believes that despite our technological progress, there are profound human realities that continue to exist, and he’s excited to dive deep into these aspects.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the production team for the upcoming movie titled “SOULM8TE“. The legendary duo, Wan and Jason Blum, will steer this project. Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Wan’s Atomic Monster are taking on executive producer roles. Ingrid Bisu is also joining us as an executive producer, while Alayna Glasthal will be overseeing the project for Atomic Monster. It’s an honor to be part of such a stellar team!
Last year, the horror film M3GAN became one of the highest-grossing horror movies, raking in approximately $181 million worldwide on a reported production budget of just $12 million. This success is no surprise coming from Blumhouse Productions, known for producing low-budget films (usually horror or sci-fi) that resonate with audiences and yield substantial profits. Their upcoming project includes bringing the iconic antihero character Spawn, created by Todd McFarlane, to the big screen in a horror adaptation, moving away from traditional superhero genres.
In the movie titled “SOULM8TE,” a man gets an Artificial Intelligence android as comfort after losing his beloved wife. Trying to make a truly conscious companion, he unknowingly transforms a benign lovebot into a potentially lethal partner who becomes more like a soulmate.
As of now, there isn’t a confirmed release date for the movie SOULM8TE, but we can look forward to seeing M3GAN 2.0 on the big screen starting from June.
