Dragon Ball Star Toshio Furukawa Shares His Favorite Piccolo Moment

As a seasoned Dragon Ball fan with decades of fandom under my belt, let me tell you, Toshio Furukawa‘s confession of his favorite Piccolo moment was nothing short of nostalgic bliss. That last stand of Piccolo in the early days of Dragon Ball Z has always been etched in my memory too, and hearing it was Furukawa’s favorite as well only made it more special.

For quite some time, Toshio Furukawa has been recognized as an expert on everything related to Piccolo. This voice actor has been associated with the Namekian since the debut of “Dragon Ball” on TV, and throughout the years, we’ve witnessed Piccolo testing his boundaries. From emotional reunions to eagerly anticipated transformations, Piccolo has experienced it all thanks to Furukawa’s involvement. Not too long ago, the Japanese voice actor shared his favorite Piccolo moment from the “Dragon Ball” anime.

The exciting news originated at Otakuthon, where Furukawa was invited as a special guest. There, fans eagerly flocked to his panel, hoping for insights into his favorite roles. During the discussion, Piccolo was mentioned, and Furukawa shared that his most cherished memory while voicing the Namekian character took place during the initial stages of Dragon Ball Z.

Furukawa often recalls Piccolo’s final stand with great affection, an event that has left a lasting impression on him due to its connection to Gohan and Piccolo’s heartfelt speech. If you’ve watched Dragon Ball Z episode 28, you’ll remember the scene I’m referring to. During the Vegeta Saga, Nappa arrives on Earth, ready to hunt down Gohan. While training with Piccolo, Gohan is targeted by the trio. In a desperate attempt to shield Gohan from a powerful attack, Piccolo sacrifices himself.

Following the attack, the scene becomes heart-wrenching as Dragon Ball Z delivers some poignant last words to Gohan and Piccolo. It’s then that the Namekian reveals he had come to regard Gohan almost like a son, making Piccolo’s demise even more painful. Naturally, this is Dragon Ball we’re discussing, where characters often find ways to come back to life. However, at that moment, Furukawa found himself deeply touched by the emotional farewell.

Currently, Piccolo and Gohan remain quite close, which undoubtedly brings a sense of delight to Furukawi, given their special connection. In the latest film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, we witnessed these characters working together, suggesting that there’s no signs of conflict brewing between Piccolo and Gohan in the near future. After all, sacrificing one’s life for another is not a common occurrence. Since 1989, Piccolo has stood by Gohan’s side, and the same holds true for Furukawi.
