As a long-time follower of the martial arts master from K’un-Lun, I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store with the announcement of the Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special! Ever since I donned my green and yellow costume for Halloween back in ’74, I’ve been hooked on Danny Rand. It’s not just because we share a name (though that certainly helped), but the iconic look and unparalleled kung fu action have kept me coming back for more.
Celebrate the half-century journey of Danny Rand, also known as the Iron Fist, the Immortal Iron First, or the Hero for Hire – whatever his moniker, this K’un-Lun martial arts virtuoso has been dishing out kung fu mayhem since his debut in Marvel Premiere #15 way back in 1974. Now, as we hear that an Iron Fist will join the cast of Marvel Animation’s Black Panther spinoff series Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Comics honors this milestone with a special release: the Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1.
On August 14th, a fresh 40-page edition will be released, showcasing new tales penned by several esteemed authors. These include Chris Claremont, known for co-creating Wolverine’s arch-enemy Sabretooth in the 1977 Iron Fist #14; Justina Ireland from Star Wars: Sana Starros; Jason Loo of Dazzler fame; Frank Tieri of Iron Man; and Alyssa Wong, who has contributed to Captain Marvel. The artwork will be provided by Elena Casagrande (Blade), Lan Medina (Venom), Von Randal (Spawn), and Ty Templeton, who illustrated the Daredevil 60th anniversary special.
