Mark Wahlberg on The Six Billion Dollar Man Reboot, "It's Gone Up Due to Inflation"

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement at the prospect of Mark Wahlberg finally bringing The Six Billion Dollar Man to life on the silver screen. Growing up, the original series was a staple in my household, and the idea of seeing a modern take on this iconic character is nothing short of exhilarating.

Over the course of nearly a decade, actor Mark Wahlberg has been linked to playing the lead role in a modern adaptation of the classic TV series “The Six Million Dollar Man“, which starred Lee Majors and ran from 1973-1978. However, the remake’s production has experienced various ups and downs since then, with the action and superhero movie genres progressing in the meantime. Despite this, Wahlberg remains eager to participate in the project. During a recent red carpet event for the upcoming Netflix film “The Union“, ComicBook asked Wahlberg if his co-stars Halle Berry or Tom Holland had attempted to convince him to join the Marvel universe. In response, Wahlberg emphasized that his main focus in the superhero realm is the remake of “The Six Million Dollar Man“, even humorously suggesting a title change due to current events.

Mark Wahlberg mentioned a superhero movie he has in mind, titled “The Six Billion Dollar Man“, which is an updated version of the original “The Six Million Dollar Man” due to inflation. He stated that it’s realistic and grounded, given the advancements in bionics technology and science today. The film offers the fantasy of a superhero with incredible abilities, but Wahlberg admitted he doesn’t feel comfortable wearing a superhero suit. Halle Berry suggested he would look good in one, to which Wahlberg replied, “It’s not about physical appearance; it’s about mental confidence to step out of my trailer in such a costume.”

What Will The Six Billion Dollar Man Be About?

According to Martin Caidin’s 1972 novel “Cyborg”, it seems that “The Six Million Dollar Man” would likely be about an ex-astronaut who, following a catastrophic test flight accident, gets reconstructed by the government into a state-of-the-art bionic operative for national service.

2023 saw Mark Wahlberg expressing optimism during his conversation with Collider, stating, “I believe there is a real chance for that project to come to fruition.” He further explained, “The progress might be largely due to this movie we’re currently working on. Skydance may soon secure the rights, if not already, and once they do, we can swiftly move forward with production. So, I’m determined and relentless in my efforts to make it happen. It’s challenging to bring some projects to life, but I believe this one is worth seeing through to completion.”
