Deadpool & Wolverine: Aaron Stanford Confirms Pyro Is a Continuation From X2

As a long-time Marvel fan with memories of X2: X-Men United etched into my mind like the mutant markings on Pyro’s face, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard Aaron Stanford was reprising his role as Pyro in Deadpool & Wolverine. It feels like a nostalgic homecoming, a chance to see this character evolve in a fresh and humorous setting without losing the essence of the original storyline.

Marvel Studios shook up the established narrative when they introduced the concept of variants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, breaking away from their previous approach of telling one continuous story in a single timeline since 2008. Following Avengers: Endgame, the introduction of the multiverse opened up possibilities for filmmakers to delve into alternate realities and similar concepts. This development resulted in various versions of the same characters, sparking debates among fans about which character and reality should be included in the “Official Timeline.”

For fans concerned about the consistency of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine in the new series compared to their previous appearances, rest assured – especially regarding Aaron Stanford’s portrayal of Pyro. According to Stanford himself, the Pyro character he plays significantly in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is identical to the one he portrayed in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Stanford explained on the ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast that instead of seeing it as a completely new character, he perceived it as an extension of the Pyro from X-Men 2, but with a different tone. Essentially, he reimagined the original character as fitting into the Deadpool universe and its unique circumstances, taking inspiration from Pyro’s backstory as a young, disillusioned, outcast who transforms into a radicalized terrorist, showcasing that transformation.

Who’s all in Deadpool & Wolverine?

In the Marvel Studios’ production titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) team ups with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Their alliance reshapes the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Aaron Stanford reappears from the X-Men series as Pyro, while rumors suggest Jennifer Garner might return as Elektra Natchios.
