Love Actually: Chiwetel Ejiofor Told Andrew Lincoln to His Face That He's a Bad Best Friend in the Movie

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen more than my fair share of heartwarming and heart-wrenching storylines unfold in the digital worlds I inhabit. However, nothing quite compares to the rollercoaster ride that is the infamous “Love Actually” scene from the 2003 holiday classic.

In the popular romantic comedy movie “Love, Actually,” Mark, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln, concludes his storyline by expressing his love for his best friend’s new wife outside his friend’s house, using large posterboards. While this scene fits well within the film, it can seem questionable when critically analyzed – a point often discussed by fans on social media each year. Interestingly, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who played Peter (Mark’s best friend), agrees that Mark’s actions could be seen as unfriendly, but this interpretation is not widely debated.

In simpler terms, Ejiofor expressed, “I am confident, without a doubt, and while I might have my biases, I’ve communicated this directly to him. If they had a discussion afterward, there could potentially be some strong feelings or disagreements involved.”

Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has recently spoken up in public about a film he co-wrote and directed, titled Rob Peace. He mentioned that the ongoing discussion about the role of Mark in the movie Love, Actually, specifically regarding the credit or criticism for his romantic gesture, seems to be an annual topic these days.

“It has its ups and downs,” Ejiofor noted. “Every year around Christmas time, there’s a period I like to call the ‘Love, Actually’ season. This period, which lasts roughly from before Christmas until Valentine’s Day, can evoke different responses in people. Sometimes, they find it romantic – the gestures, the cards, and so forth. But other times, they think it’s strange – as if the characters should have been arrested instead.”

Under the guidance of Academy Award-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 YEARS A SLAVE), the film Rob Peace is a retelling of a true tale about a gifted young man named Jay Will, who finds himself grappling with his father’s murky past and his own bright future. Nurtured by his loving mother (Academy Award-nominated Mary J. Blige from MUDBOUND), Rob makes the daring choice to jeopardize all he has achieved to liberate his incarcerated father, played by Ejiofor once more. The film also features Camila Cabello and is based on the New York Times bestseller by Jeff Hobbs.
