Marvel vs. Capcom Arcade Classics: Fighting Collection Reveals New Trailer

As a lifelong gamer and comic book enthusiast who fondly remembers the golden age of arcade gaming, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics! The mere thought of reliving the thrill of those iconic battles between Marvel’s mightiest heroes and Capcom’s most formidable warriors is enough to send me into a nostalgia-induced frenzy.

Later in the year, the “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics” is expected to debut on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Although Capcom hasn’t specified a release date yet, they’ve been hinting at it and giving glimpses of what’s to come. Recently, a fresh trailer has emerged, focusing solely on one game from the collection: “X-Men: Children of the Atom”. It seems fitting that Capcom chose this title first, as it was the initial fighting game they created using Marvel characters!

The new trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection can be found below.

In the trailer, you’ll find that players will initially have 10 characters from the X-Men universe at their disposal: Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Iceman, Psylocke, Colossus, Omega Red, Spiral, Silver Samurai, and a Sentinel. Although it may seem unusual to release a trailer for a game that’s 30 years old, this video offers a sneak peek into some of the new additions coming with the collection. At the 44-second mark, you can explore the game’s training mode and catch a glimpse of its gallery. In the gallery, you’ll notice concept art for Cyclops, resembling Don Heck’s design from Uncanny X-Men (vol.1) #39. This particular costume didn’t end up in the final version, as developers opted for the Jim Lee ’90s look instead. It’s intriguing to see what might have been!

The “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection” was revealed during a Nintendo Direct event in June, and it will encompass a total of six classic fighting games. Besides these six titles, Capcom is also incorporating one arcade brawler: “The Punisher.” Although this game doesn’t align with the rest of the collection thematically, it holds historical significance as it was the initial collaboration between Capcom and Marvel. It would be exciting if Capcom eventually releases other Marvel-themed brawlers like “Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems” and “X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse,” which could benefit from updates for modern gaming platforms!
