5 Games to Look Forward To During Gamescom Opening Night Live

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say, this lineup for Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live is nothing short of exhilarating! The sheer anticipation of witnessing the first campaign playthrough of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has me on the edge of my seat. I mean, who doesn’t love a good ’90s Cold War throwback?

As Gamescom draws near, the highly-anticipated Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, is scheduled for August 20th at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST. This live event will showcase exciting new game announcements, trailers, and gameplay reveals, as well as discussions with notable guests, a sneak peek into Gamescom 2024 events, and much more. In the lead-up to the event, Keighley has been generating buzz by disclosing some of the games that will make their debut on Opening Night. Here are five that have piqued our interest:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

As a die-hard fan, I excitedly shared that Keighley announced on his platform (previously Twitter) about the live unveiling of the first campaign playthrough for the upcoming installment of the colossal franchise, right from Germany. This hints at a significant presence of the next Black Ops game during Opening Night Live. From the trailers, it seems that Black Ops 6 is set in the ’90s at the tail end of the Cold War, and it promises to bring back legendary characters to reel us back in.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Following a controversial unveiling of an extended gameplay video at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, which was criticized for being essentially a long sequence of cutscenes and received mixed feedback, it’s intriguing to see what they’ll showcase for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle this time. Geoff Keighley’s post doesn’t provide many specific details about the content, only stating that it offers a “new perspective.”

New Game from Tarsier Studios

Tarsier Studios, creators of Little Nightmares 1 and 2, are set to unveil a trailer for their upcoming, as-yet-unspecified game at an upcoming event. While we don’t have any details about the new game yet, it’s clear from the teaser shared by Keighley that this won’t be Little Nightmares 3.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Since its debut in 2018, the initial release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has consistently received praise from both critics and players. With Warhorse Studios now under Plaion, the sequel is anticipated to surpass its predecessor in every aspect. According to Geoff Keighley, we can look forward to a reveal showcasing gameplay for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Marvel Rivals

Regarding Marvel Rivals, a game that has garnered a substantial fanbase due to its numerous successful playtest sessions, Keighley mentioned that fans should anticipate new characters in the game and further updates. Having completed two beta testing phases, it might be during this event when the release date for the official launch of Marvel Rivals is finally revealed to those eagerly awaiting its debut.

Beyond the titles Keighley has pointed out, we can anticipate further games such as Civilization VII, Dune: Arousing, Monster Hunter Wildlands, and Lost Records: Bloom & Fury. More unannounced games are also expected to join this list.
