Sherwood season 2 release date confirmed and first trailer revealed

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for gritty British dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement as Sherwood makes its triumphant return to our screens! Two years is an eternity in the world of television, and the anticipation has been palpable since the cliffhanger ending of season 1.

Following a two-year gap since its debut, the BBC has at last disclosed the return date for Sherwood’s new season on our television screens.

The award-winning crime drama is set to make its comeback with Season 2 on Sunday, August 25th at 9 PM. Following that, the second episode will be aired on Monday, August 26th.

Further episodes will follow on Sundays and Mondays.

After making a splash with more than 6 million viewers and garnering widespread acclaim, the series will delve deeper into the longstanding conflicts within the communities of Nottinghamshire’s heartland.

In a recently released preview, we get a sneak peek at the upcoming episodes. This trailer brings back beloved characters from the first season and presents some significant new figures. Additionally, David Morrissey’s character, Ian St Clair, hints at an impending “storm gathering”.

Season 1 draws partial inspiration from actual incidents that occurred in writer James Graham’s hometown, presenting a divided community struggling to cope with the fallout from two startling killings.

While season 1 was set in the mid-2000s, season 2 catapults us into the present day.

Here comes the Sparrow gang, the neighborhood’s criminal group, back in action, accompanied by two fresh additions: the Bottomleys and the Bransons. Get ready for a complex network of local gangs, the resurrection of long-standing feuds, and narratives brimming with vengeance and deceit.

Moreover, a fresh source of conflict arises with the arrival of a new sheriff who vehemently opposes the launch of a contentious mining operation. This confrontation between financial development and lingering vestiges of the past seems to have culminated at its peak.

For the upcoming season, Clio Barnard (known for “Ali & Ava”) and Tom George (“This Country”) will take on directing duties. The talented ensemble includes Morrissey reprising his role as DCS Ian St Clair, along with Lesley Manville portraying Julie Jackson.

Additionally, viewers will be excited to see several fresh talents joining the cast, such as Monica Dolan known from “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office” and “Small Axe”, Sharlene Whyte from “Small Axe”, and David Harewood, recognized for his work in “Homeland”.

The six-part series will delve deeper into the lives of people residing in Nottinghamshire, examining how past occurrences continue to shape their current reality.

The second season of Sherwood premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer over a two-day special event starting this coming Sunday, 25th August, and continuing the next day, Monday, 26th August – both days being Bank Holidays.
