Death in Paradise spin-off Return to Paradise gets first official trailer

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a soft spot for crime dramas and a penchant for international settings, I find myself eagerly anticipating the premiere of “Return to Paradise.” Having immersed myself in the Death in Paradise series, I am excited to see how this spin-off will bring its unique flavor to the franchise. The Australian backdrop promises a fresh perspective, and with a talented cast led by Anna Samson, Lloyd Griffith, and others, I’m confident that this series will deliver engaging storylines and intriguing mysteries.

It’s no surprise that another spin-off series is emerging following the continued popularity of Death in Paradise, which continues to mesmerize millions with each new episode, and the successful Beyond Paradise series.

Jump into “Return to Paradise,” the latest installment of our beloved franchise, this time unfolding in the stunning landscapes of Australia! I’m thrilled to share that it’s been brought to life by BBC Studios Productions Australia, in collaboration with Red Planet Pictures for ABC, and with a bit of magic from the BBC as well.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming television series, which was filmed in picturesque locations spanning Sydney and the Illawarra coastal region. This captivating production will be available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year, and here in Australia, it starts airing from Sunday, 8th September, exclusively on ABC. I can hardly wait!

As the release date draws near, they’ve unveiled the first trailer for the series, showcasing our main detective, Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson), who receives an icy welcome upon her return to Australia. She left her fiancé at the altar many years ago.

In her new role as head of the local police force, we’re introduced to her team and some of the mysteries they will endeavor to solve during the course of the season.

You can watch the trailer right here now.

The series also includes Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso), Tai Hara (Colin From Accounts), Catherine McClements (Total Control), Celia Ireland (Wentworth Prison), Andrea Demetriades (The Artful Dodger), and Aaron McGrath (Preppers) as its main cast, alongside Samson.

Viewers can look forward to the arrival of “Return to Paradise,” serving as a delightful prelude to this year’s Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise Christmas specials. The new seasons of both shows will premiere in the upcoming year.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that upon its return, “Death in Paradise” will introduce a fresh detective into the mix. The role is filled by Don Gilet, who brings to life Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson. This shift comes following Ralf Little’s decision to move on from the series.

The fifth lead detective on the show will be played by him, following the roles of Ben Miller, Kris Marshall (currently leading Beyond Paradise), Ardal O’Hanlon, and Little.

Return to Paradise will air on BBC One and iPlayer.
