As a film enthusiast with a penchant for stories of resilience and triumph, I eagerly anticipate the airing of Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me. The journey of Amy Dowden, a Strictly Come Dancing star who bravely battled grade three breast cancer, promises to be an inspiring and emotional rollercoaster that will resonate with many.
Earlier this year, it became known that Amy Dowden, renowned from Strictly Come Dancing, would be sharing a deeply personal documentary produced by the BBC. This documentary will explore her journey through the toughest period of her life following her diagnosis with stage three breast cancer.
The release date for the documentary previously known as “Amy Dowden: Fight of My Life” has officially been set, and we have the exact date now.
On Monday, 26th August, the one-hour program titled “Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me” is set to be broadcast both on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 8 pm.
Filming for the documentary began just a few days after Dowden’s diagnosis at the age of 32, marking it as the second personal documentary project by this professional, following “Strictly Amy: My Battle with Crohn’s.”
For fifteen months on set, I’ve been part of a remarkable cinematic journey, chronicling the hardships, dilemmas, and triumphs that unfolded before my lens. One of the most memorable highlights was witnessing Dowden make a comeback to Strictly Come Dancing for the grand professionals’ dance in the finale – a truly glorious moment indeed!
Initially, upon the announcement of the documentary, Dowden expressed: “Exactly a year ago, I had just gotten married and was preparing for my honeymoon, marking a fresh, thrilling phase in my life. However, discovering a lump in my breast significantly altered my existence.”
At my current stage of life, I never imagined I’d face cancer. Even with relatives and acquaintances who conquered cancer, I was unaware of the profound ways it could alter my existence.
On this path, I’ve gained immense insights into myself and the impact of a cancer diagnosis. My wish is that this movie offers hope and resilience to others, and inspires everyone, regardless of their age, to perform self-examinations regularly.
In February, Dowden shared that after undergoing treatment, her cancer follow-up examinations showed no signs of the disease.
She is expected to return among the experts for this year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing.
