Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Relocates Filming for Season 2

As a seasoned gamer and monster enthusiast who’s spent countless hours battling kaiju in various games, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I hear about the new location for the upcoming season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Having grown up watching Godzilla movies, Kong Skull Island was always my favorite setting, and now it seems like we’re going back there!

In the exciting news for fans of giant monsters, the Godzilla vs Kong saga is not just resuming on the big screen with the third installment, but AppleTV+ is also reviving the MonsterVerse through a second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Last season, this live-action series introduced characters like Godzilla, Kong, and numerous other kaiju from past and present, as they worked together to establish the organization known as Monarch. Filming for the new season has already started earlier this year, and recently, Monarch shared an update that the forthcoming story will take place in a location distinct from previous ones.

In our previous encounter with the characters from the MonsterVerse’s latest TV show, they were hurriedly exiting the Hollow Earth, utilizing Godzilla as a means to facilitate their escape against an attack by a flying kaiju. At the end of Kurt Russell’s character, Lee Shaw, was trapped within the Hollow Earth, but most of the main characters managed to return to Earth. Unfortunately, they had spent several years traveling due to the varying time rates between the two realms. In the final scene of Season 1, Kong has made an appearance and his arrival provides an explanation for the change in filming location.

Monarch Changes Locations

Following the end of the first season, it has been revealed that the filming location for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will shift from British Columbia, Canada, used in season one, to Queensland, Australia for season two. Although not yet confirmed whether the entire show will take place on Skull Island, the change of venue aligns with the storyline if Monarch is expanding their exploration into Kong’s territory.

If you haven’t started watching “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” yet, Apple TV+ gives us this synopsis: This series centered around giant monsters follows a pair of siblings as they delve into their family history with Monarch, a mysterious organization. Their journey takes them through the realm of these creatures and eventually to Army officer Lee Shaw, played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell. The story unfolds in two timelines – the 1950s and the present day – where Monarch is under threat due to what Shaw knows. This multi-generational tale uncovers hidden truths and shows how monumental, world-altering events can echo throughout our lives.
