As a die-hard wrestling fan who’s been through countless hours of WWE and indie wrestling content, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news that Heels is heading to Netflix! This show has captured my heart with its gripping storylines, top-notch performances, and an authentic portrayal of the world of professional wrestling.

Before The Iron Claw brought critical acclaim to professional wrestling stories told through a Hollywood lens, Heels was doing it on a weekly basis on Starz. The Stephen Amell-led wrestling drama tells the tale of Jack Spade (Amell) and his efforts to keep family-owned indie promotion Duffy Wrestling League afloat while simultaneously sharing the in-ring spotlight with brother Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig). Heels premiered in August 2021 and aired its sophomore season in Summer 2023. Days after Heels Season 2’s finale aired, Starz cancelled the program. Hope sprung anew for the show’s future as Netflix acquired Heels this past April.

Heels Heads to Netflix on September 15th

Heels is ready to move into its new home.

I can hardly contain my excitement! Starting September 15th, I’ll be able to stream both seasons of “Heels” on Netflix. It seems that Netflix is diving even deeper into the world of professional wrestling with this move, having already produced “Wrestlers,” a docuseries about Ohio Valley Wrestling’s financial hardships and the personal narratives of its wrestlers, just last year. I can hardly wait to see what they have in store for us fans!

Approximately three months following the release of “Heels”, starting from 2025, Netflix will be the sole platform to stream “WWE Monday Night Raw”. The media rights for WWE’s primary show were purchased by Netflix back in January, and they will air the live broadcast exclusively for the subsequent five years.

Will Netflix Produce Heels Season 3?

The addition of Heels to Netflix signifies more than merely storing its collection. Similar to how shows like Suits and Manifest were successful binges in the past, Netflix anticipates that Heels will be robust enough for them to produce additional seasons under their brand. This goal aligns with executive producer Mike O’Malley’s aspirations for Heels, as expressed in Fall 2023, where he mentioned the team was searching for a network committed to extending the series.

“O’Malley stated that Netflix is incredibly convenient. If a large number of viewers enjoy the show, it increases the likelihood of producing more episodes. Conversely, if the viewership is low, there’s no need to create additional content. He was delighted that this platform can now bring the exceptionally authentic and genuine acting performances in this series to a wider audience.”

Remarkably, actor Stephen Amell, best known for his role in Heels, is slated to headline Suits: LA – a spin-off from the USA Network series. This exciting opportunity arises due to the significant surge in binge-watching of Suits on Netflix throughout 2023.

Heels Season 1 and Season 2 begin streaming on Netflix on September 15th.
