Nintendo Bringing Back More Zelda Amiibo This Year

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Nintendo adventures under my belt, the news about the return of the Link and Zelda amiibos from The Legend of Zelda franchise has stirred a sense of nostalgia within me. I remember vividly collecting these figures back in 2019 for my Nintendo Switch, and now they’re making a comeback just in time for the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”!

In 2024, Nintendo has announced a second chance for collectors of amiibo figurines to obtain several out-of-print or hard-to-find ones. Starting next month, two iconic amiibos from The Legend of Zelda series will be re-released: the Link and Zelda figures. These reissues feature designs inspired by their appearances in the 2019 remake of “Link’s Awakening” (for Link) and “The Wind Waker” (for Zelda). You can find these revamped figurines in stores starting September 26th.

Pre-orders for the Link and Zelda amiibo can be found at Best Buy, Target, and GameStop.

If the date September 26th seems familiar to you, it’s because that’s when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is set to debut on Nintendo Switch. This was announced in June, and while we know the game will feature amiibo compatibility, details about how it will function within the game are still scarce. Given this, it seems logical for the reintroduction of Link and his figure, as they’ll share the same design in the game. Regrettably, no announcement has been made regarding a similar Zelda figure in the Echoes of Wisdom style, where she is the central character. For the time being, the Wind Waker interpretation of her might be your closest option!

Six weeks from now, Echoes of Wisdom is set to drop, and I can hardly wait to uncover more secrets about this game! It’s likely we’ll get a better idea of how amiibo integration will play out – perhaps it could be like the experience in Tears of the Kingdom, where we might use amiibos to unlock unique cosmetic items for Link. Or, maybe they’ll be used in a dungeon creator similar to the one seen in the remake of Link’s Awakening. Either way, I can hardly wait to find out!

Nintendo has been gradually revealing details about the game since its unveiling during the latest Nintendo Direct. In fact, it got a substantial trailer earlier this month, offering glimpses of Zelda’s powers and the places where players will adventure. Unlike “Link’s Awakening,” which was set on Koholint Island, “Echoes of Wisdom” is set in Hyrule, meaning fans might recognize some familiar locations.
