Who’s been dropped from Avatar 3?

As a fervent admirer of cinematic grandeur and artistic vision, I find myself utterly captivated by the saga unfolding around James Cameron and his epic masterpiece, Avatar. The man has proven time and again that he is not just a director but a visionary who pushes the boundaries of what is possible in filmmaking.

It seems that the third installment of Avatar, now called “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, is moving forward in its extensive post-production process with a targeted release date of Christmas 2025. In an update, director James Cameron has shared who will not be appearing in Avatar 3.

Previously, there was a bit of uncertainty regarding Michelle Yeoh’s role in Avatar 3, but the director has officially clarified that she will no longer be part of Avatar 3. However, excitingly, she will make her appearance in both Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 instead.

Yeoh will be much more involved in filming in what’s left to shoot. Cameron says:

“She will be coming in soon to do her part, which is an interesting, fun character. I mean, we’re getting ahead of ourselves now. This whole thing has been planned for years and years. The scripts were all written years ago, through the end of movie 5. So we’ve been working on parts of 4 even as we go along, mostly because we’ve got this young cast. We had to shoot them all while they were still young. We love Michelle. She was always a movie star, but she’s blown up into a huge, huge phenomenon.

In the production process, the second movie, third movie, and the opening segment of the fourth movie were filmed concurrently because they featured young actors who would portray characters that experience a significant time leap in the fourth film, resulting in those characters appearing considerably older as the story progresses through the years.

Following the debut of the third movie, there’ll be a considerable gap before the subsequent films. “Avatar 4” is planned for release in December 2029, and “Avatar 5” will follow suit in December 2031, making James Cameron 77 years old by that time. It’s unclear what projects he might undertake next, but he has hinted at potential new work within the Terminator series.
