Civilization 7 Won’t Utilize the 2K Launcher on PC

As a seasoned strategy game enthusiast with countless hours spent navigating the intricate landscapes of Civilization, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming unveiling of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7! The prospect of avoiding yet another launcher is like a breath of fresh air – it’s as if they’ve read my mind and granted me a small but significant victory in the ongoing battle against digital clutter.

Next week at Gamescom, Firaxis will unveil Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, and they’ve revealed that the PC edition won’t necessitate the use of the 2K Launcher. In addition, the Steam version of Civilization 6 has already been upgraded to mirror this change, with the Epic Games Store set to follow suit in the near future.

As someone who finds it quite inconvenient to use various launchers just to play a single game, I appreciate this shift. Regarding Civilization 7, it’s slated for release in the first quarter of 2025 across platforms like Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The world will get its first glimpse of its gameplay during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20th.

Right after the opening ceremony concludes, a detailed exploration of the sequel is scheduled for 1:30 PM Pacific Time on the developer’s Twitch stream. Lasting more than 20 minutes, this dive will highlight the game’s “groundbreaking new elements” and offer “special behind-the-scenes knowledge” from the team. If you’re at Gamescom, you can play the game from August 21st to 25th. Additionally, there will be a developer discussion at PAX West on August 31st.
