As a long-time gamer with memories of playing on old Atari consoles, I can hardly contain my excitement about the latest Xbox exclusives making their way to PlayStation 5. The rumors about an upcoming announcement have me biting my nails! If it’s true that we’re getting a “big” game next week, I can’t help but wonder if it could be the elusive Forza Horizon 5 or perhaps even Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
For the past few months, some Xbox exclusives like “Hi-Fi Rush”, “Pentiment”, “Grounded”, and “Sea of Thieves” have been released on PlayStation 5 as well. It’s rumored that more might join them soon, according to a source known as Shinobi602 on the ResetEra forums. This trusted insider hinted at an upcoming announcement next week, though they weren’t clear about multiple announcements. Instead, they suggested that we could expect at least one “big” game to be unveiled! This has sparked much discussion about which major title it might be.
While a lot of people think Forza Horizon 5 is that “big” title, Jez Corden of Windows Central says his sources indicate that the racing game is not the one being announced next week. Corden does believe Forza Horizon 5 would be a smart candidate to bring to PS5 in the future, but thinks the impending announcement will be something else. Corden mentioned a handful of possibilities, including Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. The latter would actually make a lot of sense, given the fact that the original Hellblade appeared on PS4 before any other console.
The upcoming event, Gamescom next week, is where Xbox is expected to have a significant presence. It’s speculated that any upcoming announcement from them (could be anything) might be made at this show, but we can’t say for sure yet. Since Shinobi602’s initial post, more leakers have shared their insights. Specifically, eXtas1stv, a Twitter user, has stated confidently that his sources claim “Forza Horizon 5” will be released on PS5 within the coming months, although he’s unsure if it’s the game they’ll announce next week. It’s worth mentioning that eXtas1stv has accurately leaked several Game Pass announcements recently, which gives his claims a bit of credibility. Additionally, Mike Straw from Insider Gaming has also heard whispers about “Forza Horizon 5” being ported.
Just as you should approach rumors cautiously, taking them with a pinch of salt, there appears to be quite a bit of speculation currently. This is reminiscent of the situation before Microsoft announced their previous round of ports earlier this year. Additionally, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella seems enthusiastic about the sales of their games on PlayStation. Given these circumstances, it wouldn’t be surprising if Xbox had a PlayStation-related announcement in the works soon. We can’t say for certain what’s going on, but it’s likely that Xbox is preparing to make an announcement concerning PlayStation shortly.
