Batgirl: DC Announces New Cassandra Cain Solo Series

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of comic book adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming Batgirl series has me more than just a little excited! Having grown up with Cassandra Cain as one of my favorite characters in the Bat-Family, it’s heartening to see her finally getting her own solo title after all these years.

After the thrilling announcement of Black Canary: Best of the Best miniseries this week, I’m super excited to share that another member from the Birds of Prey family is stepping into the spotlight! DC officially unveiled a new ongoing solo series focusing on Cassandra Cain, better known as Batgirl. This gripping tale will be penned by Tate Brombal (Green Lantern Dark, House of Slaughter) and beautifully illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa (Ms. Marvel, Mech Cadet Yu).

I am thrilled to be handling Cassandra Cain’s narrative, a character from the Batman family that I’ve always admired. Given this is her 25th anniversary year, I feel particularly privileged. Prepare for family turmoil, secrets being uncovered, and an extraordinary amount of martial arts action, uniquely executed by Cass. Batgirl returns to her solo series, and the world should brace itself for an unexpected impact.

What Is Batgirl About?

In the comic book Batgirl, an ominous gang of assassins threatens Cassandra Cain’s life, leading Lady Shiva to intervene. Despite their strained past, they are compelled to collaborate as mother and daughter in a desperate attempt to survive. However, obstacles prove harder than anticipated, prompting Batgirl to embark on an exhilarating journey filled with martial arts, in pursuit of truth, justice, and perhaps revenge? This unique portrayal of Batgirl invites readers to delve into the mind of one of Gotham City’s most lethal warriors, while unraveling the intricacies of her profound bond with her mother.

Miyazawa expressed his enthusiasm about delving into the tale of Cassandra Cain, alongside Tate. He finds her an intriguing character within the Bat-Family and is eagerly anticipating the surprises that lie ahead. Moreover, he feels privileged to be illustrating this captivating book, as it marks his debut with DC Comics!
