As a longtime fan of Quantic Dream and their captivating narrative-driven games, I must admit that the news of Adam Williams’ departure from the studio has left me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, it is always exciting to see talented creators embark on new ventures, especially when they are starting their own studio. On the other hand, his departure comes at a time when the development of Star Wars Eclipse seems to be shrouded in uncertainty.
For approximately three years since its initial reveal, Star Wars Eclipse has been conspicuously absent, with rumors suggesting a challenging production process (to put it mildly), which has led to a fair share of doubters. Recently, there’s been another development in this regard, and while it may not be entirely reassuring, here’s the latest news.
Adam Williams, who is the lead writer for Star Wars Eclipse at Quantic Dream, has chosen to depart from the company. This news was picked up by The Gamer, and Williams himself made the announcement on his LinkedIn page. He also revealed that he’s establishing a brand-new studio in collaboration with a team of exceptionally skilled designers and developers. We can expect more details about this exciting venture soon.
Following nearly a decade at Quantic Dream, Williams announced his departure to establish a brand-new studio in collaboration with a gifted team of designers and coders. At the moment, we’re sworn to secrecy about what we’re working on. It’s groundbreaking, unique, and for now, highly confidential. We’ll share more details soon.
I’ve had the pleasure of communicating with several of you from Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm, expressing my gratitude for your work on Detroit: Become Human and Lightspeed: Escape Maelstrom. It’s been an incredible journey!
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our team for daring to jump with us into this new venture, and to our investors for making excellent companions as we embark on our next exciting journey. I will share more details about it shortly.”
For almost a decade, I’ve had the privilege of being part of the creative powerhouse that is Quantic Dream. My journey began in 2015, where I took on the lead writer position for the groundbreaking game, “Detroit: Become Human.” Now, I’m continuing my adventure with the same role in the highly anticipated project, “Star Wars Eclipse.”
William’s resignation may not directly indicate the status of the game’s development – after all, job changes happen frequently within the gaming sector. However, if previous rumors hold true, it seems that the project might not have been progressing smoothly.
Following its announcement in December 2021, news broke out that the game had been under development for approximately 1.5 years, yet remained unplayable at that point. Subsequent reports speculated a potential release date as far as 2027 or 2028. Last September, Quantic Dream’s Vice President of Marketing, Lisa Pendse, offered a quick update on the project, disclosing it wasn’t ready for public demonstration but was actively brewing behind the scenes.
