The Substance – TRAILER

As a movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Demi Moore’s career since her Ghost days, I must say I am beyond intrigued by this trailer for The Substance. The premise alone is captivating – a tale of vanity, power, and the lengths one will go to maintain relevance in an industry that can be as ruthless as Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid.

As a cinephile with over two decades of experience in watching films from various genres, I found Coralie Fargeat’s new movie to be nothing short of extraordinary. The Substance trailer that left audiences spellbound at this year’s Cannes Film Festival is a testament to the director’s exceptional storytelling abilities. Her previous work, “Revenge,” showcased her ability to create deliriously entertaining and ruthlessly satirical films, which I have always admired. This new film promises to be another masterpiece that will undoubtedly make waves in the world of cinema.

In a remarkable role that cements her as an acting powerhouse, Demi Moore stars as Elisabeth Sparkle, once a top-tier celebrity whose career has waned and who is unexpectedly dismissed from her fitness television program by the odious studio boss Harvey (portrayed by Dennis Quaid). Seized by the intrigue of a novel substance – THE SUBSTANCE – she finds herself transformed, albeit temporarily, into the radiant, youthful Sue (played by Margaret Qualley), following a single injection. The catch? Time must be carefully apportioned: exactly seven days in one body, followed by another week in the other. No deviations from this equilibrium. What could possibly go amiss?

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “The Substance” will make its grand debut in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on September 20th, 2024, following its triumphant World Premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Coralie Fargeat’s masterpiece, a sensation at Cannes, unravels the dark underbelly of toxic beauty culture in a timeless cautionary tale. Brace yourself for a gripping journey that is explosive, thought-provoking, and twisted. “The Substance” heralds the emergence of an extraordinarily visionary filmmaker.

Demi Moore expressed her apprehension about shooting nude scenes at the age of 61, feeling exposed, yet she attributed her co-star, Margaret Qualley (age 29), who portrayed a younger version of Moore and also appeared nude, for making her feel at ease on set. Moore stated that she found “an excellent companion who I felt extremely secure with. We were quite close – in the nude – and we also shared many humorous moments about how ridiculous some of those specific situations were.”
